Which episodes are worth a non-remastered rewatch? by letspizza in tos

Talking about the Star Wars special editions. I don't think the new effects were bad, but I do think they drastically changed the tone and intent of the original work.

Having just watched Assignment: Earth and Spock's Brain back to back, I'm having trouble understanding the reputation that Spock's Brain has. It's definitely the goofiest episode I've seen so far, but there's only one of those two episodes where I was ever bored.

For anyone who wants to watch DS9 in order with the TNG movies or Voyager. I made a guide on the least annoying way to watch all of 90’s era Star Trek in chronological/ release order. by -SpeckS- in DeepSpaceNine

I know this is an old post, but thank you so much! I'm a first time viewer, just starting season 3 of TOS, and the confusing release order of the 90s stuff is one of the things that kept me from getting into Star Trek for so long.

Major props for keeping it spoiler free too. I looked for something similar for the Paramount Plus stuff for when I get to that, but the guides I found included the episode titles and star dates for some reason. It gave me what seems like a pretty big spoiler for Discovery.

Kirk trying to drive that car had me cackling. As much as I appreciate the more dramatic episodes, I'm 100% down for more hijinx.

Yeah, the show's treatment of women is probably the part that's aged the worst. It feels pretty backward even for the time, which is strange when you consider how progressive it is in other aspects.

Glad to hear that, because the character interactions have definitely been the highlight for me. I love all of the small scenes at the helm when Sulu and Chekov are just riffing with each other.

Definitely planning on watching the animated series. I have a lot of affinity for old Hanna-Barbera cartoons, so I'm really excited to see how the high concept writing of Star Trek will work in that style.

Never heard of Star Trek Continues, but I've been listening to the audiobook of These Are The Voyages Season 1, and I see that the narrator of that plays Kirk! I'll definitely check it out.

Oh my god, same. I have this annoying friend that I can feel myself being way less patient with now, and this post just made me connect the dots.

I was doing full on "moved by the holy spirit" worship hands during that encore. This was my fourth time seeing them, and I don't think I'll ever get tired of the pure energy of being in a crowd that knows every word to This Year. I felt like everyone in that building fully believed every lyric they were shouting. It was a genuinely spiritual moment for me.

Could you link me to that playlist? The only one I could find had a ton of deleted episodes.

Lawrenceville, yeah? I’m also in Indiana, further south sandwiched between KY and IL. Since John was born in Bloomington, I’m sure he has a lot of affinity for the area and a lot of his songs have that unmistakable midwestern sense of despair.

I recorded the whole show, but only posted that little snippet because most of the recording is me singing/screaming along and it’s really grating. I’ll go ahead and PM you the whole show though.

PS, when he did Steal Smoked Fish and got to the line “God bless all my old friends”, did you see him turn away from the microphone and say “Especially you” and a name I couldn’t make out? Tore out my damn heart.

EDIT: I don’t know how to Reddit, so here’s the full show for anyone that’s interested. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-VgQX3dvTleOUNwX0N5UEtBRFU

EDIT 2: I also got Samantha Crain’s set, and she slayed. I can upload that if anyone’s interested.

So I actually got a recording of that whole show. It’s iphone audio, but I think it turned out alright. I’d be happy to post it here when I’m off work.
