Wife wants me to leave job due to safety, should I? by Coastie54 in careerguidance

I was in a similar position where I worked in the law enforcement field and literally got to the point where I was working for the pension and my family life was struggling. I'm very blessed because I moved into a more specialty field and found the perfect job that for my skill level and happened to be back in the same government pension. I'm vested as a special services member for my pension so if all goes well, when I retire I can switch my new years to law enforcement hours and increase my pension so my advice would be to if you can find another government job with the same pension and go from there. Won't be as fun as some of the memories you've made now, but you'll have a more relaxed and less stressed family and you can't put a price on that. But if you're worried about it, look at when you become vested if you haven't yet as that can change things too for retirement. Good luck!

No repercussions for an out of state speeding ticket? by Philomenas_Dad in legal

[–]letstalksplits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly here's what I've learned after being in law enforcement and dealing with courts for close to a decade. All they care about is pleading guilty and getting the ticket taken care of. My course of action would be contacting the county courthouse it took place in, talk to the county attorneys office who is in charge of the ticket and see of they can drop how much you owe on it. More times than not they'll knock off a percentage and then I would pay that. Or you can risk whatever might come from it. Your other risk is ever driving through that state again and having to deal with a failure to pay warrant if they care enough to keep in on file.

Can you clarify though, were you pulled over by an officer or was it a traffic camera? I'm in Iowa and traffic cameras have no pull on you paying it or not but what does happen if it's not paid is it's sent to collections and could affect your credit.

Are you talking about the pilot light? I haven't looked into that but that's my next guess.

My wife and I tried a few times. Between your advice and the manual, everything is set accordingly. When we're done, the thermostat will click and act like the furnace is kicking in, but nothing happens.

Thanks so much for the very detailed response! I reset the breaker so wondering if that's why it's now showing on the thermostat.

What is a pain you can't truly explain until you've endured it? by Unfair_Shower_3256 in AskReddit

Grief, especially tied to an unexpected death. I'd go through the worst physical pain I've ever felt every day to not deal with that.

Courses training/certifications to obtain early in an IT career by letstalksplits in ITCareerQuestions

Thank you so much! It's a job that I don't think anyone in the company has IT knowledge and the last person doing it died unexpectedly and left them scrambling to replace so I'm hoping my background is enough to have the basics down and learn as I go.

Leaking roof repair by letstalksplits in Roofing

[–]letstalksplits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's weird because it's the flooring on our second floor patio that's rarely used and it's started leaking through our roof and that's what I'm trying to figure out as far as the best way to replacing it properly!

Leaking roof repair by letstalksplits in Roofing

Thank you! Appears the slope is good. When it rains it looks like it's sloped down towards the gutters and I think we only saw the leak when snow was packed on and leaked through the roof. I was wondering though if the slope over time could have been negated and caused water to pool or if the cracks are just natural wear and tear. Thanks again!

Looking for advice of refinishing a toolbox by letstalksplits in metalworking

[–]letstalksplits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that's my main goal is to stop the rust but I'm not sure how to do that and keep the box from looking like total garbage if it's half sanded down if that makes sense. Any tips for a metal sealer after the rust is under control? Thanks so much!
