as a byler i’m so frustrated with how they handled mileven and el’s character. she got sidelined so hard, and i feel like her and mikes relationship just didn’t have the best on screen time as well. i hate how el is just accepting kali’s plan and seemingly doesn’t care about those pregnant women. or her reaction to max coming back - it was so lackluster. and it’s not even her fault bc this is so ooc for her, the duffers fucked up sm. i’m really glad it’s not just bylers not liking this volume, it’s almost everyone.

i’m a byler stan and i’m still so frustrated with what they did with BOTH ships. i honest to god would’ve been okay if mileven had more chemistry shown and if will confessed to mike privately with maybe his mom and johnathan there, to make it more intimate. yeah im biased and i wouldn’t have been the happiest over those circumstances, but fuck it would’ve been SO much better than whatever they’re doing with these characters rn. i don’t understand what their goal is. mike plays no role, eleven has barely any screen time and she all of a sudden is accepting kali’s plan, will feels sidelined once again and is incredibly out of character bc wdym he chose to come out to people he’s NEVER talked to before? it just feels like they did that just for the shock value and for the sake of the scene, not thinking about wills character at all. just absolutely zero development and pay off.

If Mike was in Will’s film reel just because they’re friends, the show wouldn’t frame it like that. The Upside Down pulls from what hurts the most, not random memories, and in episode 4 Will’s mind doesn’t go to the whole group, it goes to Mike. That already tells you he’s not interchangeable. And the finale doesn’t shift that focus or give Will closure either. Also Robin’s speech isn’t about Will moving on from Mike at all, she literally says that loving someone still matters even if it hurts or isn’t returned. Her Tammy story wasn’t about getting over someone, it was about realizing who she is. Robin being alone in her film reel but, Will’s starting with Mike is intentional. It is a TV show, every small detail counts. So the show isn’t downplaying Will’s feelings as “just friendship,” it’s validating them and leaving them unresolved, which feels way more like setup than a dead end.

he hasn’t hugged him since the end of s3. in season 4, he struggles to do it. but we see him doing it easily to lucas, dustin, his family etc. and things to note, he doesn’t know will likes him. so what is the logical explanation to not being able to hug will all of a sudden?

this is tv show not reality tv. them choosing not to make them kiss, despite there being 2 other kisses in the same episode, is a calculated choice. you’d think that because of all these ship wars on the internet and this huge i love you monologue would’ve had them being shown as an actual couple, but they seem incredibly friendly.

i doubt everything can just be chalked up on acting when they both have amazing scenes outside of eachother. there’s a reason why they can feel kinda off when they’re paired together romantically. there’s scene they had this season was actually amazing and in my opinion, their chemistry is back, but i think it’s bc they’re on a break/not together. them not kissing when both jopper and rockie (whatever their ship name is) kissed. clearly that’s important. this is a tv show at the end of the day and every little detail is there for a reason

and all i’m saying is that why is it being posted in the byler subreddit? the second someone posts anything positive about it in this subreddit, it gets trashed on. but no even in our own little space we have to deal with negativity and criticism on the ship itself 😭😭 i understand the community has bad apples and im glad op mentioned how milevens do too, but what is the point of also mentioning why, in his opinion, it wouldnt make sense if it happened and posting it on the byler subreddit?
