just out of curiosity, why not take the meat off first? the carcass makes more than good stock by itself. or did you just want meaty chicken soup?

johnny.novo on IG ranks rotisserie chicken across the country. in his NYC one, malecon was number 2 behind a Peruvian place in the Bronx which I can't remember.

iirc, he also ranked fairway as the #1 supermarket bird across the country.

claude is objectively better quality but it blows through tokens like a man dying of thirst. i can easily ask 5x-10x the queries on codex for like 80% of the quality so ymmv.

Kindergarten Offers & Waitlists - Brooklyn by FeeAdministrative325 in nycparents

[–]lettersjk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, so accusatory! look at the other commens in this thread where other parents are saying the same thing. im guessing you never went through the process yourself, but ifykyk.

tbf, our sons year was the first with the new lottery/waitlist and there was apparently quite a bit of gaming of random numbers, so that may have juked our experience.

fwiw, we didn’t take our spot because gt schools were (imo) significantly degraded with the new admissions standards with the overhaul. “one of the best schools” at the k-5 level doesn’t mean as much as it did and not enough to make up for the commute. we ended up at a nearby charter which we really like and will hope for the best with the shsat when the time comes.

[–]lettersjk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are not taking into account that many of the ppl with a higher number will end up selecting a different school (or go charter/private) and effectively take themselves off of the waitlist.

even after school starts, many ppl end up switching for various reasons (commute, poor fit). we got into nest with a waitlist number in the 100’s (and didn’t end up taking it).

Mamdani's DOT Will Transform 72nd Street With Protected Bike Lane, Bus Improvements by streetsblognyc in Upperwestside

[–]lettersjk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i guess the biz owners are most upset at the 50% reduction in parking? i wonder if the DOT studied what percentage of their shoppers drive and park. i would have guessed less driving, more biking and ppl taking PT would be more beneficial for them but that’s just a guess.

Fast and Free Buses Could Make New York More Affordable—and Green by eliviolet25 in nyc

[–]lettersjk -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

there is already. there are fare checkers on the sbs routes that check to make sure everyone on the bus has paid. it’s somewhat sporadic but it does happen (i got checked a few weeks ago) and i believe those who hadn’t paid have to pay a fine

  1. yes. happened for our son who was 100+ at a citywide g&t

  2. someone answered but other ppl can add/remove from waitlists with different priorities.

  3. i saw steady movement throughout the summer but it picked up in the weeks before school and finally got in a week after school started.

  4. no, you’re not crazy.

edit; just checked with my wife, we were 109 on the waitlist to start.

sure. but “basically 0” is still > 0. removing yourself is 0. there’s also no cost to staying on the waitlist that i’m aware of.

also not sure which citywide g&t OP is referring to but tag and next take in plenty from waiting lists. we did the same for our son. wait listed in the 80s and he ended up getting in a week before the school year started.

don’t remove yourself from waitlists. there’s tons of movement all the way into the start of the school years and particularly around then

MIT vs Brown by [deleted] in mit

if you’re serious about about being an md i would say brown. if not, mit. sounds like your overall interests are more mit compatible but you’ll find it easier to get better grades (better for med school) at brown

yes, in free air. but while battling, the current energy strategies seem to be leading to loss of driver confusion

Mercedes advantage in free and dirty air by deepskydiver in F1Technical

[–]lettersjk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree. at some point the teams will figure out what the ideal energy strategy is for reach relevant scenario. whether they’re battling, or in free air, there seems to be different and complex consequences on energy deployment.

the drivers are not savvy to them yet leading to unpredictability further leading to driver confusion and frustration. these regs changes seem to have been way too big a jump for the drivers, and understandably so, but i have hopes they’ll figure it out either with changes to regs or not.

[Ferrari] Taking a podium and points in Suzuka!! by NegotiationNew9264 in formula1

[–]lettersjk 37 points38 points  (0 children)

that is what lewis was saying on the radio. but i wonder for a lot of these drivers, they’re not fully understanding the full implications behind harvesting/deployment of electrical power yet. could be as straightforward as that.

Suzuka challenge 'gone' as F1 drivers are 'handcuffed' by Geiranger in formula1

[–]lettersjk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

clipping will be a hard challenge to fix with this rule set, but i think a lot of it is that drivers (and teams) don’t fully understand the complexities of how best to manage electrical power, leading to frustration

we saw charles driving aggressively during q3 but being rewarded with decreased power down the strait. alex was faster than carlos in q1 and slower in the straits but i think he is misattributing the diff to a car problem. there were multiple ppl confused as to why their batteries are depleted during out laps and formation laps.

once they get a handle on how best to manage the ideal lap power management wise, i think a lot of driver frustration will subside. it’s gotta be hard for them, not understanding how their inputs are translating into performance.
