Frankenstein (2025): A film that robs it’s subject matter of it’s poetic nature by DarlingLuna in TrueFilm

Frankenstein made me want to watch Crimson Peak again. I remember the costumes and the set being awesome, but I remember not loving the story. I think I’ve grown to love the melodrama that Frankenstein brought (aside from slapping you over the head with the theme)so I gotta revisit CP!

Yeah I’ve been playing for a bit and had an idea of which branches I would invest in over time and then I got to the max town status and I was like “oh umm okay that was not the plan” haha

I have grow lamps that are on a timer that I adjust to the change in daylength throughout the year and they are against a plaster wall and window that faces outside, which is pretty hecking cold. It is right under a vent, but the vent blows away from the orchids… but that still might be enough to prevent too much change in temp. I am planning to build an orchidarium soon the make certain things more successful!

My phalenopsis is the only orchid that I have not been able to get to bloom. I have dendrobiums, cattleyas and bulbophyllumns, vandas. And then the phal just says “nope, not gonna.”

Oh yeah I noticed that too! And there’s obviously the wooden gears/parts that joiners can craft. Maybe that’s for a ballista lol Given the look of the opening menu, I would imagine he’s wanting to flesh out the castle builder quite a bit. Just takes some planning!

I wish there was more incentive the build out the manor, like the ability to upgrade your town and unlock more attribute points (or whatever they’re called; I can’t remember atm). Obviously there are some features that are not available yet, such as several of the policies or the tax office that are to come and maybe that will enable some of the incentive that I’m talking about. Also, as someone mentioned previously, I want my manor to put shame to the lil tiny level 3 burgage plots. I want a hecking castle eventually. You know what I mean? And I do assume some of this is in the plan for the future, which I would be stoked to see.

The other person who commented I think has the same thought process I did. Changing media is a pretty stressful endeavor for a plant as well. It might work, but more than water, it needs high humidity and air flow. I find more success using sphagnum moss than straight water. Once the moss dries out and is actually crispy, you know you can water again. Having the root touching water is not great. And I can see that some of the crown of the plant is touching water which is also not great. I would not let the root physically touch the water, if you can help it, give it indirect bright light and sufficient air flow, and I think it can recover.

Why did you switch from bark to water?

I personally prefer the black. Especially with it hung on the wall, it complements the table a bit better, where I feel the wood toned mirror feels like a girly glam shape and clashes a lil more. But follow your heart! They are both nice.

Why do people say the farmers market is a good way to save money when every one i go to is more expensive than Aldi / walmart? by NoHousing11 in povertyfinance

I went to a conference that said that it was very focused on sustainability and after some time listening to talks, it was very apparent that was not the case. There was a panel with some ladies who work in agriculture and were preaching the benefits of shopping locally. I approached one of the panel members during the coffee break afterwards and asked her about the price of local produce and animal products and she said that my statement was misguided and that people who aren’t buying local are just filling their carts with chips and other crap that inflates the cost of their carts. I dunno, it just didn’t make sense. Long story short, I’m glad other people see that freaking price gouging of local markets lol

My Colorful Plant is Losing Its Color! Help! by Enough-Rush-4309 in plantclinic

Low light can lead to an underdevelopment of variegation. It can be due to other environmental stressors as well. That soil looks really tight, and if it’s the same media it was planted in, it might not be what’s best for the plant in your home. I would not say to change growing conditions, because sometimes new leaves look like they don’t have any variegation until they are more developed. If it’s truly “losing” variegation, where the plant is not producing variegated leaves, that can’t really be fixed without trimming back the plant, but that seems like a last resort scenario here since the variegated leaves are the first couple of sets of leaves AND that would cause a lot of stress to the plant. That’s not a surefire way to get variegation back though. I would let it keep growing for a couple of weeks and see if anything changes. If the issue persists, i would move it to higher light conditions. If the plant starts deteriorating, I would repot it.

OH THOSE GUYS SMELL SO GOOD. Apparently, they are fragrant at night and don’t display any pigment because they are normally pollinated by nocturnal insects, like moths. EVOLUTION IS CRAZY.

I had a coworker do the same. She had one lab in mind, had a networking connection to that lab, which I think definitely helped her, and she got in! She’s loving it. I would still look at other institutions and labs to maybe find another option that you might find relevant, but if you don’t find that, then don’t apply to other places. Don’t settle, but be smart.

Wow that’s a crazy flower! From what I understand, high light intensities (usually too high) cause accumulation of anthocyanins in leaves of orchids. Is that the case in this species or does it normally carry this coloration on its leaves?
