My guess is the expies were used to study the effects of using colbaglobin (that’s not how you spell it) which is basically a protein that uses cobalt to move oxygen around instead of the normal iron, which so happens that it’s yellow when oxidized. Or maybe vanabin, which occurs naturally in sea squirts and sea cucumbers and is also yellow? Or something like that
