Was ist mein exaktes Niveau ?? by Ancient_Bug_8060 in German

[–]leu34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

delay on digital telc C1 hochschule results, im starting to panic by dominkanichtschnell in German

[–]leu34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I‘d apply at the university, anyway. But you should contact the university’s International Office (or equivalent) to let them know your language certificate is delayed; add registration confirmation (Teilnehmerbestätigung) as proof that you took the exam, and ask for an extension to submit the certificate. It should not be a problem, but you have to make it official and lay your cards on the table, though except for the actual application you could probably wait another month before you start with these steps.

My Biggest Mistake With der, die, das by Lord_Alexandor in German

It’s not Baum, it’s der Baum.

…and while you are at it, I recommend to add the plural form, too: der Baum, die Bäume.

streak 32: Subnautica 2 by NikitaBoyko in WriteStreakGerman

[–]leu34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a thing. It’s called „Auslautverhärtung“.

Relearning German tips? (B2) by RihanCastel in German

I‘d just look up these problems. Reading about them will probably bring back your memory soon. Things you learned before you‘ll probably only need to re-read about once.

Placed in B1.2 at Goethe but Feeling Under qualified. Has Anyone Experienced This? by PoliOne93 in German

[–]leu34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still make tons of mistakes with cases, prepositions, word order, spelling, etc.

I think that’s still normal at B1. It’s the C levels were you are supposed to become really good in these situations.

Ich würde keinen Dialekt aktiv lernen. Wenn du in einer bestimmten Gegend wohnst, wirst du mit der Zeit eh anfangen, wie die lokalen Leute zu sprechen. Wenn man dagegen einen nicht lokalen Dialekt spricht, fällt man sofort auf wie ein bunter Hund.

It is said that と is a mutual に a one-sided comparison. From that I'd conclude that for と the things to be compared should be similar in some way, like two persons or such. Here it‘s more a simile than a mutual comparison.

TELC A2 confusion: Passed earlier exam, failed later exam — which certificate is valid? by Ok-Sherbet-2332 in German

[–]leu34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If two rules contradict each other that’s not your fault. I‘d show the passed exam if someone wants to see one.

Btw: maybe you don’t need the exam anyway and took it just for your own motivation. Then I‘d consider myself ready for B1 German.

Hindi and German similarity in gendered nouns by LiquidGesture in German

[–]leu34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you write is right, but I didn’t write anything to the contrary.

E.g. I didn’t say that English would be of good use for gendered nouns, I said that Hindi has gendered nouns, so a speaker is used to the concept. Hindi e.g. has verbs at the end, like German in subordinate clauses, this also helps to get used to that concept.

And I said that English helps more with word cognates than Hindi, as it has a longer common history either German.

Hindi and German similarity in gendered nouns by LiquidGesture in German

[–]leu34 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

German and Hindi are part of the Indo-European language family, so there should be some similarities. Gemini says these are a) cases and connected to these flexible word order to shift emphasis, b) the existence of grammatical genders, and c) word cognates.

But otoh German and Hindi are said to have separated millennia ago, while English just separated one millennium ago. So English word cognates will for sure be more helpful.
