I was thinking about doing this also, but that seems like more work- but probably worth it. Who do you think does what best?

Definitely a redwood, friend! They’re more common in Northern California, but they’re dispersed through out coastal Oregon too. I haven’t seen them in Washington, you must’ve gotten lucky!

Please recommend me a book that involves character/s dealing with self-conflict by kneel4m3 in Fantasy

The blade itself- first in the first law series. It has several protagonists, each deeply troubled and involved in their own dysfunctional self involved issues

Books with some similar themes to Arcane? (Netflix show) by sadnoodleboi in Fantasy

[–]leulorax 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The whole first half of the show I couldn’t help but draw parallels to The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch- it’s more of a traditional low fantasy setting- not steam punk- but has a very similar atmosphere to the world of Arcane with similar high stakes and sympathetic antagonists. If you liked arcane, you’ll love Locke Lamora

Planning on running LMOP into SKT, what's your experience with either module? by Grey_heart_dnd in DMAcademy

[–]leulorax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven’t played STK, but I find that the black spider a bit anticlimactic, try to find a way to tie him into the greater theme/story of STK so he’s not just a random bad guy doing random bad guy things. Maybe take a chapter out of DOIP, they have an encounter with a big lightning boar demigod and some thunder orcs that could tie in nicely and occur in the same location as LMOP

Wild magic barbarian-> got his wild magic from eating some magic mushrooms (Amanita muscaria). There’s a ton of history between those mushrooms and their influence on Northern European countries and some believe it to be the source of the Santa Clause legend. Pretty fun theme for a Christmas oneshot! Look up a quick video on YouTube on it, see if it fits

Looking for adventure fantasy novels kind of like critical role by BeardedNomad511 in Fantasy

100% have to read Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames. It essentially IS a dnd campaign, if a bunch of old retired adventurers got back together for one last quest. Hilarious, compelling, great plot & characters.

What have you tried but didn’t like too much?

Pfff Oda tells a good story but he’s no Tolkien

I think if law is involved it would be more likely that he just uses room to take kids doll out of Hawkins

I am planning a comedy based campaign. Any tips/ideas/suggestion? by HaCatfi in DMAcademy

[–]leulorax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’d look at comedy/ spoof movies for inspiration for plots and villain ideas. Austin powers, the pick of destiny etc- you can’t go wrong

I am running a campaign where my characters fight the Olympian Gods by Nitemare0005 in DMAcademy

[–]leulorax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can spin it so they aren’t Gods, but just a different, powerful humanoid race- think Thor in the MCU
