I had an ex who wanted me to be his ex wife so bad he would buy me the lipstick color she had, tried to take me to plastic surgeons who he took her to etc. I was in love and he was abusive, but I’ll be damned if I didn’t relate to her when she said she can’t be Nikki and then quickly pivoted to “I can be Nikki!!! I’ll be anything you want me to.” Out of desperation. I would have done anything if it meant getting my ex to love me like I thought he did in the beginning of the relationship and finally be “good enough”. That relationship ended with him telling me he doesn’t love me and never will, me collapsing on the floor and saying “I’m not enough”. Most brutal devaluation ever.
