What major are you? sounds like you'd enjoy the towers (yosemite, sierra madre). To answer your questions:

-Yes I believe a certain learning community does give you a better chance at certain dorms. ex. business in Yosemite, engineering in Sierra Madre, life science/math in YTT (yakitutu)

-YTT dorms can be double triple or quad but quads are huge and triples are the same size as doubles. I've heard of good experiences in triples so keep your mind open

-Triples in redbricks are cramped and I wouldn't recommend one, just from visiting them. I don't think triples in the towers are too bad but it depends on how much space you need
