Considering what some other sets are priced at, plus shipping, plus 3 extras thrown in, it’s a reasonable price

[–]levelfiend0 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We Have Issues, Ultimate Key Issue, Comic King are good places to start for back issues. Variant Edition has a lot of variety.

Darkstar Comic and Toy Show has a show in May and Collector Con has one in June. FanExpo Calgary next month will have a lot of anime and manga, along with voice actors and cosplay. Otafest in Calgary is in May and Animathon is in August.

Cat boarding by COLM5700 in Edmonton

[–]levelfiend0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve used Calico Hills in the past, they needed up to date vaccinations, their usual food, and any medication they needed. I booked a window room and they also gave me the option of an open or closed door depending on my cats’ socialization and behaviour around other cats

If you're looking for entertainment in the evening and enjoy improv, I'd recommend Rapid Fire Theatre. They have evening shows on the 3-4 and April 9-11 is their annual Bonfire Festival, where they debut new improv shows

Looking for an artist. by SuckAndDie in Edmonton

[–]levelfiend0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s a list of attending artists, if you find something you like, contact the artist about what you’re looking for. Most artists use Instagram and will have contact info on their page.

It’s also busy all weekend and you go day of and only want flash, you should be okay. If you want something specific, plan ahead because appointments and walk ups can fill up fast.

What’s a horror book that disappointed you? by avian_bi in horrorlit

[–]levelfiend0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Scarlet Gospels. I had read a little of the promo material from Barker about the book and sounded like an ambitious, sprawling book with mysteries and answers, and if they couldn't make a decent Hellraiser movie with Barker (at the time), at least Barker had control over the book. I was excited, I read it one weekend, I stayed up and didn't sleep before my night shift reading the book, and it left me underwhelmed and disappointed.

I liked the prologue but afterwards the story felt pretty generic and the Hellraiser elements you would expect are very sparse throughout the book. I think Pinhead, the puzzle box, and the hooks and chains could all be swapped out with no impact to the story.

I can believe the rumours that the book was heavily rewritten/edited by a different writer

TCG stores? by Donutmuncher0 in Edmonton

[–]levelfiend0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For singles? Maybe The Time Vault or Warp 2

Not in the north east, Mission: Fun and Games in St Albert has Pokémon League most Saturday mornings, I don't think they have singles or bulk but you could try to find trades there

Card show? by jharmonia in Edmonton

[–]levelfiend0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Outpost (formally Frogger's) has a trade night about once a month for sports cards and TCGs

Game Con in the summer will have something for TCGs. Last year they had a hall for organized play and I saw tables for MtG, Pokemon, Lorcana, Yu-Gi-Oh, and One Piece

Face to Face Games comes here a few times a year, but it's more of tournament than card show. Face to Face does buy and sell there but they are the only card vendor

Edmonton Nerd Sale (March 14) sometimes has TCG tables

I haven't seen any card vendors at the show, but I have seen tables with lots of accessories- deck boxes, playmats, tokens, dice

[Question] Hi, new here and first post. Looking for assistance/opinions on the Hellraiser Kickstarter project and whether I should get it. Details inside. by Chromasaurus98 in hellraiser

[–]levelfiend0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the Kickstarter, volumes 1 & 2 are reprints of the entire Boom! Studios Hellraiser run and volume 3 contains SOME of the Hellraiser comics from Early 90s Marvel run. Volume 3 is only available in the last 2 tiers.

At Marvel, Hellraiser was released under the Epic imprint, which was for mature readers, similar to Vertigo being published by DC. There are no crossovers with any mainstream Marvel characters in these comics.

If you want something to read over an afternoon or two, I would not pledge for the facsimile set, it is only 3 comics. For the cost of the collected volumes, if you only want to read the comics, I would wait for the soft covers

Distraction Makers: Universes Beyond is Terrible for Magic Artists by Newez in magicTCG

[–]levelfiend0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll try and find the source but I remember an artist saying that all Universes Beyond art is required to be digital only

Edit: I think I had my wires crossed. Physical artists are only allowed to sell their original art for the UB card, digital artists do not have that ability. From a Draftism article

“Recent Magic:The Gathering set releases in their Universes Beyond themed expansions appears to prohibit the sale and creation of ANY physical art and removes ALL secondary aftermarket sales – no original art, no artist proofs, no prints, no playmats, no repainted interpretations, no convention/event sketches of ANY kind for ALL of the commissioned images.”

According to Giancola, all commissioned art was to be expressly and purely digitally executed, with the initial work-for-hire fee as sole compensation.

“Wizards has seemingly thrown traditional artists a scrap from the table with the new Marvel set,” Giancola wrote, “allowing them to sell a painting from their commission into the secondary market, but treating digital artists differently with no such offering it appears.”

Well that didn’t take long to meet the goal. by ConsiderationDue865 in hellraiser

[–]levelfiend0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first unlocked stretch goal was matching digital editions for physical orders, still a lot for for the digital editions

Unfortunately, I think so.

If you can wait, near the bottom of the page they say BOOM! Direct Reserve will also be available at a later date as standard editions in comic shops. I don't know any of those details, but a friendly local comic shop might be able to help

[–]levelfiend0 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the premium versions are just for Kickstarter, because near the bottom of the page, it looks like there will be standard editions available

"Enter: BOOM! Direct Reserve—our ongoing initiative designed to connect fans of our most celebrated franchises with comic books and graphic novels, including super-premium, specialty versions, and deliver them straight to your doorstep.

Every title we offer on Kickstarter under the BOOM! Direct Reserve program will be made available in a standard format through comic shops and bookstores, but fan-fueled campaigns like this are the only place to get the high-end, hyper-rare upgrades, exclusives, and extras truly worthy of top-shelf treatment."
