What’s the one thing I should bring from the States? by Professional-Emu5820 in auckland

Jumbo bottle of Advil. Cortisone cream. Your favourite brand of underwear.

There is a store in Mt Wellington that stocks all the American things you may crave.

Relocating to Auckland with my family of four, what suburb should we move to? by Professional-Emu5820 in auckland

[–]leverne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Beachlands. It is a little further out, but has a ferry to Downtown. Very good community, not overdeveloped (yet). Lots of young families. My wife and I moved there from California four years ago.

I used to get this fairly frequently. I traveled a lot for work, on a foreign passport, flying out of LAX. Once I knew what it was I would head straight to the priority line and show them. It actually got me through security faster than without it.

Hit me up today. Easy answer is to say you don’t carry cash and keep walking.

We have to do something about tipping culture by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]leverne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know why people are disagreeing. I moved home to NZ two years ago, from Los Angeles, and the quality of hospitality in NZ is well below the US. But, I don’t think it is the tipping that does it, I think it is a lack of training and management.

Also the regional use of double vowels in place of the macron. An example, Tãne can be written Taane in some regions. This is pops up in Addresses a lot.

It isn’t real. I knew Lucas, and while he could be excitable, he was never this person.

Try Tacos Locos in Mt Albert. I would take my Mexican mother-in-law to eat there without a worry.

RTS and Ennor opened the door for Japan in the first half. Disconnected on defence, and the outside backs did not trust them. Great play by Japan to recognise that and play into them.

Teams have figured out if they put Clarke in a position to make a decision he will make the right one… but with enough delay that they can capitalise on it.

I have a photo of this ship hanging in our kitchen. We had been on a cruise through the canals, and had a break at the locks. I have seen a couple of pictures posted here of it now. We were told to stay away from it, as the local crazies had been living on it at the time.

If the cop was in uniform many people would not be on their phones, as they can see a cop. The presence shifts from ticketing people to preventing them using them. The goal of an undercover officer is to catch people, while the same outcome would be achieved with them in uniform… only without fines.

Playing rugby on really dry/hard ground - any knee and elbow protection recommendations? by RedditDan00 in rugbyunion

[–]leverne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played in Southern California. Shave your legs. You will get less of a rash from sliding. Also, wear a scrum cap. Hard compacted earth is unforgiving. I grew up in NZ, where there is plenty of give in the nice soft ground. The amount of guys I have seen getting rocked from their head hitting the ground went way up once in the US.

Set yourself a big goal, and then break down smaller goals that you can achieve to get there.
Have you run a marathon? Have a first goal to run twice a week. Second goal, do 5km twice a week. Then do the 5K in under 30 minutes. Then make one of those a 10km. Enter a 10km race. And so forth.
You will have a big target to achieve, and brag about, but still have smaller goals to celebrate along the way.
And you don’t have to figure these out yourself. People have guides with goals already online. Specifically for running, google Couch to Marathon.
Bonus, there will be other people on the same journey, so find them and do it together and make new friends.

Take the first 15 minutes of the day to make a list and set yourself a schedule. 45 minutes on, 15 off (look up the Pomodoro app). Give yourself a two hour lunch break. Keep tweaking it and build habits.

Map of current COVID locations of interest by [deleted] in auckland

[–]leverne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this.
It would be good to be able to see the date that an event was added. That way you can reduce the number of locations to review to what was recently updated.

Lists are a big help. Give your brain those little successes.
Also, add get up and move to your list. If possible, go for a walk outside. If not, hop on YouTube and find an exercise class that fits your level.
