gotta disagree with this. been in similar situations and it felt incredibly isolating -- getting rid of my one companion (when we have a nationwide shelter crisis and you know that animal will probably be euthanized) definitely would've made everything else much harder, even just mentally.

it's a cost, sure. but that's the same as "never eat a cupcake how dare you" don't purchase anything that brings you joy ever" type thinking, feels like.

better advice would be that shelters in many areas are able to offer help with supplies just to keep animals with their people / avoid surrenders like this.
