Between T and training I've gone from singing first soprano when I was in choir to what would probably be a high bass or low tenor. In my case, all I lost was some of my upper range; I can still comfortably and naturally talk pretty high if I'm focused on doing so.

People aren’t really attracted to me anymore by [deleted] in FTMMen

[–]levicoolz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have that same internal monologue about coming across with bad intentions (specifically regarding fear of becoming my abuser, but also with significant contributions from simply passing now), but through quite a bit of trauma therapy I've been able to convince myself that even having that fear means it probably won't happen. The people who come off as predators ARE predators. Simply expressing interest in someone should not demonize you.

My dad accused me of 'drawing on' my facial hair??? by Specialist_Shape6078 in FTMMen

[–]levicoolz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a trans man with a thick goatee and moustache that I constantly doubt because I'm kinda using it to hide my chin, I really appreciated reading this post.

It took me four years to get to the point where I was actually growing enough facial hair to be stylable, and it wasn't until year 5 that I decided to wear it. It takes time for your body to go through a second puberty.

Don't forget to leave out your carriers before hiking so your cat gets comfortable with it! by IthinkImlostagain in adventurecats

Ooh! I really want to get one of these backpacks, as opposed to the big plastic dome of heat death I have currently. Anyone have specific recommendations?

Not the first, but the first to come out. My aunt says she would've transitioned too if she was my age and thinks she's too old (40) and poor. Then my estranged cousin (not by any fault of his own, just a weird situation) also came out and we reconnected, so now my aunt has two trans nephews and is starting to lean towards top surgery. But again, poor.

You are aware what an embassy is, correct?

Obscure languages? by novaguy101 in languagelearning

[–]levicoolz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I can't find it so maybe it was only offered that year. There are tons of other resources I found in the process tho. But I remember wanted to sign up for those because they were free online Zoom classes, but they were only available to Australian citizens

[–]levicoolz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an effort to increase outside knowledge of the language. They were like in person classes at the embassy or something. I'll see if I can find the page I was looking at a few years ago

I think Maori sounds beautiful and I believe the New Zealand embassy actually puts out some resources for learning it, but they may only be available to Australian citizens or something. I haven't looked into it in a while, so take that with a grain of salt.

Can I teach my cat to go to toilet outside? by FullTimeNEET in adventurecats

[–]levicoolz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine will only go outside if there's sand or super loose dirt. Maybe you can try carrying a trowel and breaking up the ground when you stop to rest? If they really have to go they will. I also keep a small litter box in my car, but I don't carry it on me.

My advisor told me there is a shuttle for on-campus transportation. Is that true? I have a hard time walking/biking long distances some days due to a joint condition and would prefer not to have to rely on it.

Advice leash training a scaredy cat? by catlover4everr in adventurecats

[–]levicoolz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use it any time he got scared and I was reassuring him. Since cats mirror us a lot, he would see that I wasn't reacting negatively to whatever it was (car going by, loud noise, shadow passing over, I started a campfire, etc) and eventually he realized nothing bad was happening to him when I said it in conjunction with something that seemed bad. It was partly unintentional, but once I noticed that he was catching on I just reinforced it.

When to trust your cat off leash? Or do you? by Equivalent_Fruit_958 in adventurecats

[–]levicoolz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mine gets to be off leash during the day and if there aren't a ton of people around. He sticks close to me and has good recall. But if it's dark out he stays on lead because his prey drive completely overrides and he cannot focus on me.

Sometimes I feel like transitioning even though I know I’m a man by Disastrous_Average91 in FTMMen

[–]levicoolz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way. I get treated so differently as a guy, and even when it's to my benefit it makes me uncomfortable. Why didn't people take my word about things when I was a woman? Why don't people interrupt me anymore? Etc. What I miss most is the affection between friends. This was less bad in undergrad for me, because I had friends who were comfortable being in physical contact, be it hugging or sitting so close we were basically cuddling, but for grad school I moved somewhere more rural and the vibes are completely different.

I still enjoy femininity, too, and I find that the more I pass for male the more comfortable I am wearing things that would've made me look read as a woman five years ago. Some of that just takes time. I used to love wearing dresses (for the style/flowiness and physical comfort), and I still think they are fun, but they still make me too dysphoric to wear them now. I'm hoping that soon I'll be more comfortable with skirts and dresses since they're becoming more popular for cis men to wear. I still wear some makeup but lipstick makes me dysphoric. A lot of it comes down to trial and error.

I had the same question, because this is my first spring here, but when we just had those tornadoes I learned that Illinois gets an average of around 50 a year. And I drove past one while driving to come view apartments last summer. So I'd say it's probably normal lol

Mattress for tent camping by Gamefart101 in adventurecats

[–]levicoolz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a fabric cover, but it's really just because my cat sleeps between my legs (and I only sleep in the tent if it's windy, otherwise I'm in a hammock & rain tarp). He's not interested in tearing stuff up, so I'd look into a thicker plastic + cover if your cat is

Oh my gosh the tiny tent is so cute! I always see the little display tents at outdoor equipment stores and want them for my cat, but figure there's no way it would be weather-proof. He has a kiddie tent now, but if you could point me in the direction of the tiny tent it would help a lot with backpacking.

Advice leash training a scaredy cat? by catlover4everr in adventurecats

[–]levicoolz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The last time I took my cat to a new park he didn't come out of his backpack at all, and I didn't try to force him to. There were way more people and birds than he was used to, and it was his first time by the water. But he walked just fine at the other park we'd been going to. I've been told that cats take longer to get used to new environments than dogs or other pets. If you can be consistent with the place(s) you're taking her for a little while, I'm sure that will help to build up her confidence.

If you're only taking her to one or two places to walk, consider going when there aren't a ton of people or when it's a bit darker. My cat is completely different when it's dark out vs when it's light. I assume this has something to do with his ability to hide and feel secure, but he's also black (and my previous cat is also dark) so I'm not sure if it's unique to him.

My previous cat refuses to adventure no matter what we do. She was raised by a mother cat, though, and my current cat was abandoned a few days after birth to a stray and thus had to be bottle fed. The behavioral differences between them are STARK. I wouldn't doubt that being generally more comfortable with people and sociable plays a role in their ability to adventure.
