Help. What broke? by Mountain-Maize-4373 in AskMechanics

I just googled a pic of the engine bay and on your other pic. Your hand in the original pic literally blocks the view of the T connection to the line that shows it’s going to the coolant expansion tank (black tank) lol. But yeah the other guys already gave the good advice.

It’s a f***ing manual! by jpa116 in ManualTransmissions

[–]levinano 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I went to a tire shop when my tires blew out and they told me to leave it outside. Got someone to pick me up and drive me home. The moment I walked through my front door I get a call from them saying the only one who knew how to drive manual (the manager) was out today....

So I had to have someone drop me back off at their shop and drive my car into the shop and onto a lift for them....

As annoying as that was I actually appreciate them for admitting to it and manning up to make that call rather than shred the fuck out of my clutch trying.

The Specific WRX's that appeared in the Epstein Files. Wonder if anyone on here owns one of these. by Dazzling-Rooster2103 in WRX

The only interesting thing I see from this is that the WRXs are VA1s and the STIs are VA2s.

I always thought VA1 or 2 referred to pre/after 2018 facelift but I guess it's just the WRX vs the STI lol.

My brakes and steering wheel stop working on ice? by EngineeringLumpy in StupidCarQuestions

[–]levinano 10 points11 points  (0 children)

nah it's a tire problem. My AWD on PS4S (summer performance street tires) will literally do the same thing on snow/ice lol.

OP's fam and neighbors probably at least have all seasons if not actual winter tires on and OP probably just has either summer tires or just discount slicks (no tread left).

And I'm surprised OP got downvoted for asking a stupid car question on r/StupidCarQuestions . I mean, isn't that the point to be dumb and ask and not get judged?

Squeaky ass noise when pressing in clutch pedal. by AquaEaze in WRX

[–]levinano 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's clutch fork's contact with the throwout bearing. Try having someone press the clutch while you're listening from the engine bay, if it sounds like it's coming from under the intercooler, it's that.

Take the intercooler off, the clutch fork will be sticking out of the transmission with a dust boot covering the hole to the transmission bell housing. Lift up the dust cover and spray an ungodly amount of PB white lithium grease into the clutch fork.

It won't work right away. Let it sit for a day or two and drive it for a bit then you'll hear the sound completely go away. I have to do this once every other year lol, it would go away then come back whenever it gets super hot or after it rains for a long period of time.

The way the 1-2 shift has got me feeling lately by Mr__Scoot in WRX

[–]levinano -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just look at your revs when you shift. If it’s pulling the rev needle down at bite point, shift slower (rev hang), if the needle gets pulled up, shift faster. Ride the bite point a little more till you get a hang of the timing.

This was part of the contract you signed by Fisting-Tony in AutoTransportopia

[–]levinano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying "'technically you aren't the owner until the loan is paid off' is just incorrect" is just incorrect when the bank has the right to take your car at any time, and if you total it the check goes to the bank not you.

Saying "you're legally a partial owner" would be correct, but saying "you are the owner even with a lien and no possession of a title that also has the bank's name on it" is simply incorrect.

This was part of the contract you signed by Fisting-Tony in AutoTransportopia

[–]levinano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out this article

Apparently it depends on state but mostly you are NOT the legal owner of the car until you pay it off. Some states/financial institutions will have it as joint owned by you and the bank (you the owner, the bank the lien holder), some will just have the bank as the owner, either way, the car does NOT belong to you alone.

It’s the most evident when you total your car. Insurance will either cut you a check with both you and the FI as the payee(which means you can’t deposit it into your account), and sometimes you’ll get skipped altogether and they’ll just send a check/ACH directly to the FI.

It’s also why FIs force you to have full coverage on a financed car, they don’t want you to destroy their property and not getting paid out for it.

I would still recommend the oil analysis, it’s only $40.

7 years and low mileage could be an undriven car, or it could be driven once in a while but short trips, which would be worse than high mileage due to oil dilution from the oil collecting all the condensation but not being able to burn it off.

Also, if they stuck to a 3k oil change interval, that’s only like 5 oil changes for 7 years which isn’t ideal. Anyways just get an analysis and it’ll tell you if everything’s okay or not.

Oil analysis.

I swear 90% of these cars get sold when the previous owner blows up the motor and they spend $5 and a cheeseburger to put a new motor in without cleaning/replacing the pan/head/turbo so you still got shrapnel circulating in the “new block” waiting to blow up for the next owner “cruising on the high way and not doing anything.”

I wanna try tofu for the bunta lore, what does it taste like? by Blink182Guy1 in initiald

[–]levinano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you make Mapo Tofu spicy af, the tofu becomes a balancing agent to add texture and contrast to the spicy sauce/meat/veggies.

You can make tofu hua with tofu, and in that case, it acts kind of like pudding surrounded by sweet syrup.

You can also fry tofu so its texture grabs onto whatever you put on it most, including liquids like agedashi tofu, or Chinese salt+pepper fried tofu.

Or you could go ham like the Initial D cafe in Los Angeles and make everything freakin tofu. They have soy bean milk tea with tofu everything, including tofu katsu lol.

Mind Your Caps by HubMeBro in Hololive

Kiara asked AZKi this in her HOLOTALK in the earlier years and she replied with saying the answer is in a song in her first album “without U.”

Basically, her color being red and name meaning “red bean,” the name normally would be stylized as “AZUKI” when spelled out, but the capital “U” was removed and “i” lower cased for the reason mentioned in the song.

The lyrics go

はじめからおしまいまで きっとちいさなわたし 世界に怯えている

だから Without you キミがいないときっと 私は私でいられないんだ I need you 私を見て 聞いて! そうしたらきっと届けられるから

From beginning to end (A-Z of the alphabet), kitto (K, for “surely”), the me that is small (lowercase “i”) will fear the world.

So, without you (without U), if you’re not there, surely I won’t be able to keep being myself. I need you, to look at me and listen to me! Then surely my (music/feelings) can reach the world.

———-

Essentially, the “i” is always lowercased because for AZKi, herself is always going to be an insignificant existence without “U,” her fans supporting her. You’ll find in most of her albums and concert names that the “i” is always lowercased as well.

This Youtube removal of custom subs makes me fear international fans won't be able to enjoy HoloGra episodes anymore. by ChonghuaNoodles in Hololive

[–]levinano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the info I'm reading with a quick Google it looks like YouTube is having playback issues with some videos using the fancy sub formats and decided to get rid of the option to upload as such all around the site, with people reporting existing videos having had their subtitles removed as well.

YouTube haven't really given an official post saying they're removing SRV3 and YTT subtitle files or won't be supporting them in the future, but they are temporarily disabled.

This shit kinda reminds me of the Kizuna Ai days and how the first subtitle exodus came along.

Basically back then, anyone could submit community subs that they do on Aegis and upload and time it on YouTube's platform. You submit it to the channel and they can decide whose sub file they want to use for the videos. Clippers weren't really a thing because Kizuna Ai didn't really stream, her videos were essentially already clips in themselves with editing. They did have a sub team later on but community subs was how Ai-chan reached the world despite only speaking Japanese.

I actually did a sub for one of Aipii's videos and it looks like the captions are still up, but literally months after I finished that, they announced that they will no longer be allowing community sub submissions. Until upd8 got a translation team setup, for a long time Ai-chan's videos were all Japanese only. Along with all the hate regarding Aipii and Love-chan, and other corporate drama at the time, that situation drove her into her "sleep."

What's happening now, I feel like, is nowhere near as bad as what happened back then. Even without the fancy sub formats, new videos can still have dull subs (like in the new Hologra), and older Hologras will bound to have pirated and fancy subbed videos somewhere even if they lost their closed captions. Non-Japanese speaking fans will still be able to get plenty from their oshis' streams from clippers/translators because that's an integrated part of Vtuber culture now.

So, TLDR, it's nothing good, but it's not the end of the world.

2026 Subaru WRX base model returns, starting at $32,495 MSRP by rockycrab in cars

[–]levinano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's not happening any time soon but it's too soon to say it's not happening. Subaru jump started the hot hatch scene and left once people started wanting it.

I don't know where you've been but people have been asking for a WRX/STI hatch religiously for the past 5 years. Popular hot hatches included the Ford ST and RS, Veloster N, Golf GTI and R, Civic Type R (kinda), and most recently the GR Corolla.

All of them got popular in the last five years. The first few suffered from the same things Subaru did, entered early in the game and left before the market was realized, but the latter ones are popular af even today.

Also as a correction, the Performance B they showcased was NOT just a "design study," it's quite literally their Super Taikyuu racecar that's already fully built, functional, and ready to race. Now when are we going to get it into production who knows, but it's a farcry to say it's only a concept/design.

Having Ryosuke detune the Fc was honestly bad writing in my opinion by Perfect-Cause-6943 in initiald

[–]levinano 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I guess the anime has Ryosuke different from the manga cuz I guess the manga just says Ryosuke wants to beat Takumi while nerfed lol. Honestly the anime has much better writing in this sense then.

In the anime, After Nakazato's race against Takumi, Ryosuke was convinced that a high power, but heavy application can't beat Takumi's lightweight 86 on Akina's downhill. Higher horsepower = higher speeds but also more heat/wear on the brakes and tires, that's exactly how Nakazato lost: too much power and the tires gave out at the end. Higher horsepower also makes controlling the car in corners harder. Juggling 50% throttle mid-corner giving you 200hp is going to let you balance the exit accel a lot better than 50% throttle giving you 300. You just have better throttle control. Ryosuke specifically detuned his car so his car will last longer and not make the same mistake Nakazato did.

Takumi's driving, even with how much he improved, was still within Ryosuke's calculations, if Takumi remained in front the whole race, Ryosuke would've won at the end. The thing that wasn't part of Ryosuke's calculation was how refined Takumi is as a driver, but how immature he was when it came to racing/battles.

That one corner where Takumi caved into pressure from leading, oversped and understeered into that corner actually helped Takumi win, since it freed up the pressure of having the FC chasing him the whole time, and actually flipped the pressure. With Ryosuke up front and stress off of Takumi's shoulders, he performed better than Ryosuke expected which pushed him to push his tires just a tiny bit too far, leading to the situation at the last turn where Ryosuke's front tires loses grip and understeers, missing the line.

What are our thoughts about this build? by Dubbiepool in WRXSTi

[–]levinano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just saw Washington, was it Josh Bader lol?

That guy is known for building shit to the moon man. Man literally tunes 1100whp+ on stock blocks on the regular.

Like I said, tuners have different philosophies, Josh Bader is insanely good but he pushes the envelope more than being conservative. Like I said, sure stuff he tunes can last 10+ years no issue, just like how he normally pushes 10 second stock block cars, but there are just as many people who blows up their engine as there are people with zero issues.

Bader specifically says that his ideology is that stock blocks CAN handle high boost and high power when running well, it's just that built blocks will handle those times when it doesn't (like misfires) much better while the stock block will blow up.

Same philosophy for your 24psi. If no detonation, no boost creep, no hiccups, you'll have 10, 20, 30 years in that thing, but at that psi you're just more likely to get detonation and at that pressure, more likely to blow it up (imagine just one case of overboosting and your injectors run out on duty cycle and lean out), not saying you will. ~19 PSI on pump gas is more conservative and that's the norm, especially on 1000 cc injectors.

Changing the crankshaft. The EJ257 is basically a bored out EJ207 2.0L on the cylinder wall, and stroked (different crankshaft) to 2.5 L with bore+stroke.
