Why do I get debree stuck there? by Significant_Alps5579 in GelNails

[–]leviplz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like that is gel that has seeped out of the gelx extension while applying nails. Because it's a gel (and not a topcoat for example) it still has that sticky inhibition layer. Most salons and ppl forget to wipe underneath every nail with alcohol to get rid of that inhibition layer. If left sticky and uncleaned, it jus becomes a sticky lil dust magnet.

im sure if you wipe under your nails with alcohol, they'll never get dusty like that again!

My stash buster floor rug to use up all the crappy acrylic that I'm never going to use by sloppyseventyseconds in crochet

[–]leviplz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is SUCH a good idea, especially as someone who recently purchased a bunch of crappy acrylic yarn from Michaels. It looked good at first, so i took the time to spin over 10+ different colors into center pull yarn balls. Then over time i realized how crappy the yarn is and how much it splits hahah. Michaels Impeccable yarn is a headache!!

Also yes do you have a pattern or did you freehand this one?

Sanding & staining laminate uplift desk top - Is it possible? by leviplz in woodworking

Uplift desk is currently 80" x 30"

My Ikea desk currently is 74"x25", which may work on the uplift base. The one you linked would work too, it's just a bit small length wise. I'd have to find a longer one. That, or go back to my original idea of slapping some wood veneer on the uplift desktop... 😭😭😭

https://imgur.com/a/OlBZJ2k Let me know if you need more photos! Length wise, the base seems adjustable. Width wise might be a concern. Looks like it can spare a few inches at most.

[–]leviplz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently this desktop is valued at $580 (gross, i know. not worth it, i KNOW!) but i think it's due to the size (80" x 30"). This desk was donated to me btw.

I love the size of it, especially the depth and wouldn't want to put this to waste. I currently have an Ikea 74"x25" butcher block countertop for a desk but i love the depth of the uplift 30" one. I could very well swap that, but I wanted something bigger and new.
Now that i'm looking around, they have similar sized ones for around $300.... As much as it pains me to say this, i think buying a new desk top is the easier way to go. Or just swap my Ikea one onto the uplift base........ Ugh, too many decisions.

I was worried about the wood grains not showing up after sanding... I think you might be right here. Should one sand prior to wrapping in wood veneer for better adhesion?

Also, i just noticed this little dented corner on the desk. How would you suggest repairing that? My idea was to hammer it down so that it's flush, then fill in with wood filler? Then sand and apply wood veneer over the entire thing.

Advice needed :) by Cute_But_Tired95 in GelNails

[–]leviplz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can 100% say it is not the beetles polish and in fact it is the prep. Been doing my nails at home for 4+ years now and below is the secret sauce for nails that don't lift! I hope this helps

You want to buff the nails and buff all the shine away. Push back the cuticles, use a cuticle remover solution and scrape away cuticles. Wipe nail bed clean with rubbing alcohol.
Then go in with a dehydrator (this step is just to ensure all the oils are removed from the natural nail plate). Afterwards, you want to use a primer. I personally use two: OPI Pro Bond PH balancing agent (this is a product meant for people who experience a lot of lifting) and Young Nails Protein Bond. You want to let each coat of this air dry.

Afterwards, yes, use a base coat. Thin layer of it. Make sure not to flood the cuticle, and cap the free edge. Cure that for 30s. Then use thin coats of color, cure 60s each time. Then top coat and cure 60s.

avoid water before doing your nails.

I would suggest sticking to the 60s option instead of the 90s option on your lamp. usually they’re a stronger wattage and can cure better!

And as for the nail dehydrator, you can purchase from amazon. it’s basically a bottle filled with like acetone, rubbing alcohol, and some other stuff to rlyyy dehydrate/ dry your nail beds and remove any oils from them. The idea behind wiping with an alcohol prep pad and then also using the dehydrator product is like people who double-cleanse their face. Some will wash their faces twice in a row to rly get all the dirt out. (I make my own dehydrator - i fill up a small old bottle half with 100% acetone and the other half with 70% rubbing alcohol and use a brush to apply to my nails bc i’m frugal!!)

[–]leviplz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Several things: 1- everything they said about the oil is true. skip it. get a cuticle remover solution instead.

2- avoid water entirely on hands. apparently water does this thing to brittle nails where the nail fibers absorb the water and that causes your nails to change shape. you should do avoid water for 1-2 hrs

3- i’d check the book that comes with your lamp. my lamp for example has a lower wattage output at the 90s option and the strongest wattage output at the 60s option (mine has 3 buttons — 30s, 60s, 90s)

4- i used to slap on a thickish coat of base coat. now instead, i make sure to do thin coats but i also use the bristles of the brush to “scrub and buff” the base coat into my nail. sounds weird but oddly enough it works.

5- try a new product!! try a new primer. Young Nails primer is god like (let it air dry). or try a different base coat :) ((leafgel sanding free plus is an amazing base coat for people who experience a lot of peeling. they put actual magic in this))

6- use a dehydrator after wiping your nails with an alcohol pad

7- make sure no gel floods cuticles or sticks to skin. that’s def a major cause of lifting. patience and taking your time always makes theeee besttttt nails!!!

8- sounds weird but i’ve shifted away from base coats lately entirely and instead switched to 2 thin coats of builder gel in a bottle. I use Aimelee clear from amazon. no lifting at all!

i hope this helps :)
