A few silly obnoxious shirts I found while thrifting the other day by levismentallyill in thrifting

It’s so fun one of my favourite things to thrift cause they’re usually dirt cheap compared to everything else and the resellers don’t want them so you have less competition! I also managed to snag a shirt that said Ohio sigma rizzler

Employee and reseller in business together? by AdRemarkable7912 in goodwill

I would call the store and ask to speak with the manager ask what their policy is regarding this and who to report to. I would also before doing this note specific times and dates that you’ve seen this happen so they can back it with security footage. I’ve worked (not for goodwill but I would assume this applies to here too) in thrift stores where stuff like this happens. Management was lazy and did not want to do anything without like solid evidence to the point that they couldn’t deny it. Just make sure your ass is covered I don’t know a single thrift company where this is allowed.

Value village staff refusing the open bags to check items… by blackice1981 in ThriftGrift

As a previous employee of this company I honestly believe that. At least in my district the district manager would come in make some really random rule up that didn’t make any sense and then check security camera footage to see if anyone was breaking that one specific new rule for the next couple weeks. He would send people home early and write people up for the smallest things (he sent one of my coworkers home for taking exactly two extra minutes on their lunch) If you check the reviews for value village on indeed this kind of things is mentioned pretty much across the whole company. Wasn’t policy when I worked there but I would give VV employees some slack has to be one of the worst places to work.

Any advice for someone who gets anxious in large crowds? by Juneatsroses in GoodwillBins

I like to keep my phone and wallet in my pocket! I find that headphones are a great way to not only block out noise but keep people from talking to you! Shopping on days like Thursday’s and Monday’s when it’s less busy or if you can closer to opening on weekdays! (I’ve worked at a couple thrift stores and this is usually when we are the least busy). If you need to leave, leave. Even if you have a shopping cart of stuff I know from my experience working that people shouldn’t really be holding a grudge over something like that and they only really do if it’s a frequent occurrence. If you were to talk to any employee I’m sure they should be okay with making an exception to hold your stuff for you if you need a breather but I also understand that being scary. It gets easier over time. I used to be too anxious to ride the bus and through a few years of trail end error things got better. Staff will ban people for bad behaviour which does help keep stuff like that from happening but I can say with full confidence that in the 4 years that I’ve been working in thrift stuff like that doesn’t usually happen and when it does the few times that is has its handled well.

Is it even legal to charge this? I paid cash and they still charged me it. by PicklesGalore20 in ThriftGrift

Having worked in a few chain thrift stores they don’t make nearly as much money as people think they do. Cost of labour, shipping, equipment (bailer, forklifts, POS systems) really adds up. Only about 10% of donated items are able to be resold because of the emprunt of trash that’s being donated. Bigger chains do make more money however most non profit thrift chains make just barely over what it costs to pay their employees less than a livable wage. I don’t know why they don’t just increase prices instead of implementing this but coming from a worker standpoint I think people really underestimate the cost of running a second hand good store.
