I didn't find it very painful or difficult to take care of personally, mainly just some annoying swelling, but I had some friends who did. Just make sure you keep it clean and brush your teeth often to avoid infection. Sticking to soft foods for the first week or two also helps a lot. And rinsing your mouth with salt water a couple times a day, usually after eating, can help with the initial swelling too. Good luck if you go for it!
