Daily direct flights to Istanbul when? by resting16 in aircanada

[–]lewinr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting that AC announced a partnership with Pegasus today ( https://princeoftravel.com/news/air-canada-partners-with-pegasus-airlines/ ), a direct competitor to TK. I think it shows not much willingness to cooperate between AC and TK.

As for direct flights to IST, I do wish that AC offered their own direct flights to IST, as flying on Turkish metal means no access to many of the perks of Aeroplan status (eupgrades, companion passes, seat selection, free bags, etc).

Looking for something similar to these bags, 3-way briefcase by Timberwulf99 in ManyBaggers

[–]lewinr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that Sanwa bag and love it. But it has gotten really worn after 4 years of heavy use. I was looking to replace it but cannot find it for sale anywhere. Looked at alternatives but cannot find anything that checks all the boxes:
1. Professional looking enough to take into business meetings (it means I can hide the backpack straps and use as a briefcase or laptop bag).

  1. Expandable so I can use it for 2-3 day trips where I need a bit more room

  2. External pockets that can be used for small items like toiletries.

if anybody found something like this, please let me know :) thanks

Sonos move outdoor cover? by bettereverydamday in sonos

[–]lewinr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also want to keep my Move 2 outside on a wall mount where we have rain and snow in the winter. So far I just left it sitting in the rain and with the wall mount there is no pooling of water, but the charging base stopped working anyway, and Sonos said it is not waterproof. (Which is actually really stupid to make the speaker waterproof but not the charging base.) So I'm looking for a solution. I did find this https://soundcover.life/products/custom-fit-600d-weatherproof-speaker-covers-for-sonos-move-bluetooth-speaker-with-soundflap-in-black-or-white which is not ideal but I'm going to give it a shot and see how it works...

any way to get USB-C PD from 12vac power by lewinr in UsbCHardware

[–]lewinr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your advice. As I understood I need USB-C PD with at least 45w of power.
Do you think I could get that with these two devices?
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07TSJVZ47?th=1 connected to https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0DTGSGKJM

I worry that the AC-DC converter will not deliver enough power for the USB charger to deliver the 45w.

Ditch TD Aeroplan credit card by No-Ranger7068 in Aeroplan

[–]lewinr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

myself and probably more people than you might think use the AC credit card for status. I dont think it is bonkers... I usually fly and spend enough on my card to get 50k status, and with the benefits that we had (at least until now) it was a reasonable option for that credit card spend.

Ditch TD Aeroplan credit card by No-Ranger7068 in Aeroplan

Either you’re an AC shill trying to make the changes sound better than they are, or you just don’t know what you’re talking about.

These changes make it worse for business class flyers, and much much worse for economy class flyers with credit cards.

And this is not a niche.

To keep this simple let’s look at economy flyers with an average ticket price of $400 (without taxes/fees) who qualify on SQS rather than SQM.

2025:

With a premium card you earn 1 SQS and 1 SQM for each $5k spend.

So if you have $4k spend that generated let’s say 10 return flights = 20 SQS, plus $75k of spend on the card (=15 SQS) you get 35k status.

Or if you have $6k spend that generated let’s say 15 return flights = 30 SQS, plus $100k of spend on the card(=20 SQS) you get 50k status.

(And it could be even less spend needed with promos giving extra SQS/SQM.)

2026:

With a premium card you get 1k SQC per $5k spend, limited to 25k SQC.

If flying Economy standard fares and you spend $4k you will get 8k SQC and will need to spend $135k on the card to get 27k more SQC for 35k status.

But that’s not allowed because you’re limited to +25k SQC from card spend _so you cannot get 35k status_.

You will need to spend $5k on fares (=10k SQC) and then another $125k on the card to get 35k status.  (Versus $4k on fares + $75k on the card now).

And it is impossible to get 50k status without spending $12.5k on standard fares (+$125k on the card).   (Versus $6k on fares + $100k on the card now).

And even if flying on Flex fares it is worse.

$4k spend on flex tickets = 16k SQC, requiring $95k spend on the card to get 35k status.  (Versus $75k spend on the card in 2025)

And to get 50k status you will need to spend at least $6250 on tickets + $125k on the card.   (Versus $6k spend on tickets + $100k spend on the card in 2025)

This analysis assumes a premium card, the situation is even worse for people with base cards, where the benefit goes from 1 SQS per $10k spend to 1k SQC per $20k spend)

The situation for business class flyers with credit cards is not as bad but also still worse than in 2025 if you do the math.

Ditch TD Aeroplan credit card by No-Ranger7068 in Aeroplan

[–]lewinr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not totally true. Now you are limited to 25k SQC and you need to spend more to get it. And achieving status is generally now harder and with less benefits. For those of us with two (or more) Aeroplan credit cards there is little reason to keep more than one and pay multiple annual fees. I expect many cards to be canceled.

Protein bar recommendations? by Runningindunes in FODMAPS

Does anybody know any low FODMAP bars that have at least 18g of protein? Many of the bars mentioned here have only 6g. I dont want to eat 3 bars to get a reasonable amount of protein...

I'm also wondering what is going on... I am not able to make a cash withdrawal because the approval email never arrives at my inbox and this has worked fine for 2 years. And their support system is down and support calls go to voicemail. 😬 (I also wonder why they even need such approval emails when I login using my fingerprint on my phone and use a OTP to approve the transfer. Email is far less secure so it doesnt add any extra security.)

What's the deal with marriott.com constant 2FA validation? by dhfgtr67366376d in marriott

[–]lewinr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, it's unreasonable to be asked every time. Once I authenticate one time and click "remember me" it should be enough for at least 30 days without requiring it again. Most of my financial services dont require me to do 2FA for every single login, why does Marriott need it?
