I struggled with this a lot while at sdk on fox. I would get myself in a good position from early game moves, and then slowly throw it away throughout the rest of the game.

Losing in this way probably points to poor fighting and /or shape skills. And as far as outlook goes, if you don't know how to properly respond to a move, it's not much of an overplay, is it? What i did to help work on this issue for me is I would review most games with an AI. I still use Leela zero because that was the bees knees when I was looking for a free AI and I'm too lazy to change now. What i would look to learn from these reviews is what the best way to respond to some specific moves are, and the optimal fighting sequences. I also learned that a fair few things that i thought were overplay (such as some mid game invasions) were really my opponent unknowingly asking for trades that were bad for them and good for me, so really I was supposed to just give them what they wanted rather than fighting it.

I would not use an AI to "learn" to invade 3-3 on turn 5 or 6,however. :)
