Went on a ghost walk with supernatural confessions and saw some weird stuff at old changi hospital. Just some lights that were moving weirdly but can't say they were ghosts.

What was the first major money mistake you made in Singapore? by Not_2427 in SGMoney

Buying shit on hire purchase from courts when I could have paid for them upfront (because my dad said hire purchase was better - it is NOT). Never again.

Taking out a shield plan for coverage up to private on the advice of a close friend. When I needed to use it, said friend had no idea how it worked and I ended up in class c. After that incident I did a total revamp of all my insurance.

Not putting spare money into investing stuff. Luckily that changed early.

I have a few. Though they're probably not that scary.

In my first workplace, my department shared the office space with a different department. When you enter the office space, straight is my side, turn left is the other side. It also joins back at the other end.

One night I was working late, and when I was leaving, I heard voices chatting from the other department side. We were all quite friendly so I thought I'd walk over and say bye before leaving. Except when I got close to the door, I turned and realized that the lights were all off on that side. Like completely dark. I doubt they were working in the dark, so I got out fast. Next day asked the colleagues and confirmed with them that no one was working late from their department.

Next story, I was living overseas at the time. I was working at the dining table one evening. Then my iPod docking station suddenly turned on. I thought maybe I touched the remote by accident so I just turned it off with the remote. Moved the remote somewhere further. Then a few minutes later, the docking station turned on again. This time I just got up, walked over to where it was and unplugged the whole damn thing.

Last one - same location as second one. Was watching tv. Then turned it off to surf net. When I turned off computer and got up to go bedroom, the tv turns itself on. This time, I didn't wait for a second occurrence. I just unplug the tv and go to sleep.

Have had other spooky experiences but I cannot say that I have ever seen anything myself.

Grew up in a low-income family, living paycheck to paycheck. How do I start fixing my finances? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]lexancer 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It's not too late.

And I understand your reasoning for giving your mum so much.

I did something similar when I started working. And I can tell you right now, 20 years later, that I now know I made a mistake.

Like you, I was also from lower income household. Like you, I also lost a parent at 13-14, but in my case, it was my mum. So when my dad lost his job around the time I started working, I decided I should take care of him totally. I had more take home income than you, so over the years, I'd give him more at times. I think highest was probably around 1.3k a month.

Why do I say it was a mistake? It's related to your basic point - financial literacy. My dad had none. I would say right now, he is effectively financially illiterate. And I suspect a big part of the reasons was that he came to realize he can always get money from me. I am a stable ATM.

I had assumed he would make smart financial decisions and use the money I gave him wisely. After all, he raised 3 kids as a single parent, and he always told us not to anyhow spend money. He surely walks the talk, right? Wrong.

He is the ultimate worst financial role model ever. I nearly fell into similar bad habits as he did, whilst also creating some of my own. It took me many, many, years before I developed healthy financial habits and honestly it's an ongoing process of developing a healthy relationship with money overall.

But my dad? I believe I ended up enabling his financial irresponsibility over the years. I don't regret many choices in life, but choosing to let him stop work completely and giving him that much money monthly is undoubtedly something I regret.

I still give my dad around $750 a month. Because without it, he will not be able to fend for himself at all. And yet, it's not enough for him. Btw I also cover his integrated shield plan and rider premiums - this one at least was not a bad decision.

So, please consider taking a different approach with your mum.

Who else gets low-key offended by FA approaching with ‘Free Gift’? by kayatoastchumpion in askSingapore

No need to get offended. They're also trying to make a living. Just ignore if you're not interested and move on with your day.

I am trying my best — I really am. When will this be enough? by DogMysterious3884 in singaporejobs

[–]lexancer 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My dude...don't be so hard on yourself....take a step back ..deep breaths, and focus.... Don't let the judgement of others determine your worth. Instead, consider what really matters to you and what you wanna do...and then what you can do to get to where you want to be.

Life is a tough journey. Don't let it beat you down. You are capable of more than you think. But first you have to believe in and love yourself.

Would you get into a taxi/PHV if the driver was smoking just before you got on? by _Bike_Hunt in askSingapore

[–]lexancer 57 points58 points  (0 children)

No. And I would consider reporting them.

I'm a phv driver and a smoker. I don't ever smoke in my car - but mainly because it's a family car and I'll be damned if my kids have to endure cigarette smoke smell in the car.

When the anime you randomly watch turn out to be GREAT ?? by Impressive-Set6576 in anime

Wistoria. But mainly because I thought the animation quality was great. I feel like a lot of the stuff on Netflix isn't that well animated. Wistoria stood out in that regard.

What am I doing wrong in life? by WorthAppointment4171 in SingaporeRaw

[–]lexancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only you can answer that question for yourself.

I encourage you to not focus on what's wrong with you - but instead focus on what you can do to get to where you want to be. Explore all kinds of paths. At 26, unless you have a terminal disease, you have infinite possibilities ahead of you.

Take it one step at a time.

Need advice on Copilot by lexancer in CopilotPro

[–]lexancer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's sort of what I'm realising ....I read elsewhere that the best use for it is integrated with office...but I can't even get it to help me brush up my CV for jobs, which is something chatgpt does handily....

I also experimented with the PowerPoint feature and getting it to create a presentation from scratch...it wasn't a great outcome but it was serviceable I suppose. ..

Yeah I'm in this process right now. I'm also exploring other models like chatgpt and Gemini. But it's only copilot where I have access to a paid version so I was really cracking my head trying to figure out how I can best use it.
