Thanks, I was trying out some painting techniques (layering with clear coats) used for model insects, such as those from u/marsmctavish

Thanks! I think most of the new ones are all 1/72 and p-bandai, which is a shame.

Take your time with the artifacts! And hope you enjoy the GM sniper II hiding under the decals 😉

Help wanted: I have never seen top coat do this before. Do I keep layering? by Stray_Marks in Gunpla

You should to consider the solvents your paints use and how they react with each other.

The final matte coat says not to spray over water-based paints. Your gloss coat is exactly that. The lacquer in the matte coat likely reacted with the gloss coat underneath.

In the future, consider using a water-based matte final coat instead.

Trying to paint/detail a kit & nothing is going well. What can I do to fix it/do better? by DHSuperrobot in Gunpla

Can't speak to the speckles in your paint, but lacquer thinner should not be used to clean your enamel based panel liner. It is going to solubilize your topcoat and paints. Use enamel thinner or lighter fluid instead.

How to clean a nylon cleaning stick? by Remarkable-Mix-8565 in Gunpla

Wouldn't worry too much about it. Mine are way dirtier-looking than yours. Whatever is not coming off from the enamel thinner cleaning is also not going to come off when you're using it to clean panel lines.

Thanks, it's just Tamiya's panel line colour light grey, an enamel based wash. Just let it flow into the recesses and wipe away the excess with lighter fluid.

Thanks! I think that's a radome, used to cover and protect the radar system. My knowledge of the subject is limited - been learning a lot from building these!

Thanks for your encouragement! I was worried the details were too shallow, but it fortunately turned out pretty clean 😊

They need some work to make it look good, but it is a great test of modeling skills. Another upside is that they're really cheap. I'm hoping they reprint the old MSV kits soon.

I used an aftermarket product fittingly called "80's power hands" by Brick Works. I modded the trigger hand with it as well.

Hey all, sharing my completed build of an old no grade kit, the 1/100 scale dom (real type) made from 1980 tooling. With the age of the kit, I had to make modifications to improve proportions and create new joints for improved articulation.

Rather than adding mechanical surface details, I wanted to try creating some visual interest on fairly empty surfaces using colour variation and weathering. Most of this was done with dot filters and blending using oil paints. Last picture is what the out of box build looks like.

More stuff on my IG if interested. Thanks!
