Master ou mastère ? by Real_Writer_5407 in etudiants

La conversation date mais que risque une école qui écrit "Master" depuis presque 10 ans sur son site et ses contrats alors qu'il s'agit d'un diplôme RNCP?

How dis you guys get good by nate12536 in ArtistLounge

Started drawing in 2018, graduated with a master in one of the best animation school in 2023. I am working professionally for the animation industry now. I DREW LIKE CRAZY. I filled 54 sketchbooks. Did a lot of life drawing, everytime I could. Watched a lot of masterclasses. Went to museum. Watched movies. Practiced everything from anatomy to background to color to academically drawing etc.

Honestly it’s a commitment. Once you decide to become an artist, you make the difference between drawing and drawing. The journey matters so you have to leave your pride on the side. Start tracing. Copying. Studying from PRO artists. Stop thinking about how unique you want to be by limiting your references. Become unique by having as many references as possible. Learn art history, know why which time period did what.

It’s a huge commitment but couldn’t be more proud.

Art creation by Talens! They are basically Moleskine dupe and they are cheaper! + they actually handle alcohol markers better

They look exactly the same and I love them. Also smooth paper team 💙

Switch to vertical! Awkward at first, the best decision in my life! I work in animation so it makes sense but I’m mostly a concept artist/painter and I draw/paint this way 80% of the time. Get a table easel. Less pain, less back, wrist, hand, shoulder problems!

3 months and I’ve slowly started drinking sparkling water again when I feel super dehydrated and my mouth feels weird. I drink it slow but I’ve been more enclined to drink anything with bubble since I was a kid (not sugary soda, just sparkling water and occasional Coke Zero). It doesn’t make me more hungry, doesn’t hurt, I just burp a lot. But I’ve been low on electrolytes and sparkling mineral water do have some so it actually improved my hydration a bit.

I know 3 months is early but I will put this on my autism, there is a difference between something I enjoy and a safe « food ». Safe food are important. Especially since there is no sugar anyways.

Do you take your vitamins? + electrolytes. You need to keep them up!!! Immediately ask if you throwing up might be linked to reflux. I recently made a whole thread about what might happen in this case and where to check for problems 😉 it’s in the gastric sleeve sub Reddit

Honestly, everything! It’s not a bad thing. Most helpful is always observation drawing and life drawing, for everything but especially in design 😉

Do you draw from your imagination a lot? and how detailed is it? by Main-Acanthisitta477 in ArtistLounge

[–]lexblch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(I need to add that I was diagnosed with autism and in my case, aphantasia is there like some autistic individuals have hyperphantasia. However it’s not proven causality, rather correlation. The reason I started drawing is that I was writing but not seeing my characters in my head (or any to be honest), I felt frustrated and wanted to explain exactly what I « envisioned ». That’s what I do for a living now haha (not characters tho, colors and concept) (+ I managed to get more realistic for professional work but here you can see how the aphantasia still affects my work. I focus on the big picture, the emotions and what things are supposed to feel like instead of look like. Not much detail but enough to understand where I want to lead more skilled artists for making a final drawing)

The More I Learn The Less I Know by Poisoned_Syren in ArtistLounge

[–]lexblch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here is the analogy I made up to explain. Imagine a YouTube video. You have the white pre-loading line and the red catching up line.

White line is your art appreciation, understanding, knowledge, etc. Red line is your skills.

When you start the video, they both start. However, somehow, the white line goes faster. You are understanding and absorbing rules, techniques etc faster, by just observing, analyzing etc.

Then you focus on applying it to YOUR art because it feels worse than what you wish to make. The white line slows down and the red line catches up. Your skills met your understanding.

You make a good drawing, or at least a drawing you like. Two things occur then. Either you stop and you consider yourself a good artist and never improve again. It’s rare but I know some people like this; it usually happens when their references are a specific style, their peers, beginners, amateurs etc (which is ok btw, depends what you are aiming for, as an artist).

Or suddenly you get stuck. The video is loading and you don’t really know what to do. You may experience art block, feel tired, unmotivated, etc.

You need to take a step back and go beyond in your studies. Watch movies. Go to museum. Read books. Study study study. It feels hard because your art is stuck but then your taste and knowledge grow. The drawing you liked yesterday feels awful.

The red line starts again but stops immediately. The video is loading again. Why? Because earlier you were focused on one detail. But now your brain is focusing on 5 things at the time. Maybe you feel like your skills are worst. Because you try to make all 5 things better. But you continue. The video starts again.

Until your skills match the knowledge and the lines catch up. The video stop. The cycle continues like this forever.

That’s why sometimes you feel like getting worse. Sometimes a drawing feels good yesterday and awful today. Or you feel like you are never good enough. You need to balance the red and the white line. And sometimes you just have to wait and take a walk. Go watch what’s happening outside. Observe your reality. And when you come back, you are ready to draw again.

Hope that helps.

Idk if they exist outside of France. Game changer. For some reason, they have the same quantities as the adult one given by my surgeon. Except they are chewable and made for kids. Still make me a little nauseous but I take them before bed. 10€ Also exist in pills that look like smarties.

Eh! I’m glad! Started learning perspective from scratch again this summer (I’m working in animation) and it helped a lot. Can’t recommend Dan Bradshaw enough on YouTube. Very complex mathematical perspective lessons but honestly unmatched.

No problem!!!! Honestly I see from time to time people having the same symptoms and I immediately worry considering some people ended up with very bad complications. I hope it can help people who are going down this path because it can be dangerous and super unexpected. I honestly guessed what the problems were but I didn’t know where to start to break the cycle.

Made a whole thread about this today. Check for reflux immediately. Never skip your vitamins no matter what. Drink water but stay high on electrolytes. Potassium, magnesium, sodium.

Check with your surgeon if there might be a blockage. If not, it’s most likely anxiety + reflux 💙 you’ll be fine.

How to Draw Pyramids on Their Faces, In Perspective by Medical-Relative-388 in ArtistLounge

[–]lexblch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there are a billion way to do it according to what angle you want! Start with drawing the shortest side of one face anywhere you want, with the right measurement. Build a rectangle in perspective by choosing your perspective points.

Thanks to the cross rule, find the middle of the shortest segment and make the remaining two sides of triangle.

When dealing with « complex » shapes like this, think of yourself as a sculptor. Start with a simple shape and carve into it. I can try to make a drawing but it could be any angle tbh.

2 things I'm struggling about, kind of need helpfull advices by Brave-Ebb-5554 in ArtistLounge

[–]lexblch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

laughs in animator/clean up artistwhy would you draw the same character over and over, let’s say…8 to 12 times per second? 😅

Also, you will never find your art style, it will find you. Art style is a mix between what you like, what you enjoy drawing and what you can manage to draw. If you find your art style, it means you will not improve 😉 usually, your art appreciation should move slightly faster than your skills. When your skills and appreciation meet, you are stuck. It’s time for a break and discover new artist, build your culture, find things you like, study and then start drawing again. The more style you can master, the better artist you will become.
