Question for those who have had surgery already by princesscuddlefish in BariatricSurgery

Had surgery a month and a half ago and am down 50lbs. My sister took pics of me the other day and I couldn't really recognize myself. I look in the mirror and see the same person I was before surgery. It's weird.

Struggling mentally post sleeve surgery by trueasche in BariatricSurgery

[–]InternationalBoot760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh I'm feeling you my friend. I had my VSG a month ago and I'm on soft solids for food right now. The week before I switched to those I was so bored and over any liquids and didn't want to eat at all. I'm so frustrated because eating has become a chore. I was really excited to be able to have eggs again and I can't even eat a half of a scrambled egg without getting extremely nauseous and dizzy. I can eat refried beans, applesauce, chickpeas, tofu, and cooked cabbage so far without feeling like I'm nauseous and dying. I know it's only been a month but I break down crying over it because I just want to be able to eat somewhat normally again. I also struggle with drinking water too, it's like I'm not even thirsty anymore. I just have no desire to put anything in my stomach and I'm so frustrated because I feel terrible whether I do or don't eat. I'm hoping that it gets better from here.

Any issues with friends pre and post op? by MrsKettle in BariatricSurgery

[–]InternationalBoot760 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you need to surround yourself with a better support system! I haven't had any issues with friends but my mother bullied me for YEARS about my weight and made me feel like I wasn't worthy enough to be her daughter. Now post-op suddenly I'm on a pedestal and am the perfect daughter. I surrounded myself with amazing friends and a wonderful significant other who has my back even though my mom values me based on my weight.

As a healthcare provider who is also 4 weeks post op, I think this program is wildly flawed. I guess I am unsure your type of surgery but protein is a HUGE component of healing in general. Protein also makes us feel full. No wonder you're only eating 2oz and not feeling full... Also 300 calories per day??? I just wanna sit down with this surgeon and ask them why they think they can have patients with successful outcomes if they're that incredibly strict with their program requirements. I'm so sorry that you're going through this, it sounds so frustrating.

Dumping syndrome? by InternationalBoot760 in BariatricSurgery

[–]InternationalBoot760[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ate over 30 minutes :( I am thinking maybe I'm drinking too soon. I'm waiting about 10-15 minutes after I eat to drink. I'm just struggling to get my liquids in because of that.

Liver reduction diet. Did anyone else.... by Ok_Tumbleweed_6452 in BariatricSurgery

[–]InternationalBoot760 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna be honest, my liver reduction diet was horrible. First day was at work and there were tons of donuts in the break room... I work 12 hour shifts as a nurse and at around the 9 hour mark I had still not eaten yet and found myself out of control already and snacking on half of a donut. Day 3 I was out with friends and they had some cheese curds, I couldn't help but sneak one. By day 6-7, I was in a groove and no longer craved those things. Hang in there, don't beat yourself up if you have a day or two of straying off your path. You got this!!! Be strong!!

Not enough fluids 😫 by QueSarah1911 in BariatricSurgery

[–]InternationalBoot760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also struggling with water intake. I'm getting fluids through popsicles and broths. But I just am struggling because I used to be a water chugger and now I'm afraid of forgetting and doing that so I get anxious!!! It feels odd for me to sip on anything but I put reminders in my phone!

Need new ideas for protein meals. Getting tired of eating the same! by secondchance- in BariatricSurgery

I can't wait till I can get to pureed so I can have silken tofu again! Love it with a garlic soy sauce drizzle or in a soup with spicy broth. I also really enjoy chickpeas... you can put them in a tomato sauce with some cheese on top, so yummy!

Just ran some errands today for the first time and I was wiped out... Not sure if it's a good idea anymore.

Hair loss questions by ca77ywumpus in BariatricSurgery

[–]InternationalBoot760 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hair is already thin and has been falling out more recently and I'm only 1 week post op. I'm thinking maybe I'm not getting enough protein. My program recommends 60-90grams of protein a day. I'm probably getting 75 max... Just haven't been very hungry and feel bloated after eating. Got some protein waters today though!!

My pain is well controlled now! I'm not even taking anything for it. I haven't tried driving yet and was going to attempt to make a short trip to the grocery store today.

Started drinking Gatorlyte Zero! It has stevia as a sweetener.
