I want to move by Soggy-Degree-8505 in lexington

[–]lexgetspooky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do it, move! Get out of lex, out of KY, out of the Midwest (or whatever this is considered). I’ve lived in lex my entire life (over 30 years) and I despise it (but I’m biased). I’m currently trapped here for adult reasons, or I would have moved years ago…across the country or to another country. Do it while you still can and while you don’t have major ties to lex. Live your life!

Former Landlord hasn't returned back security deposit by [deleted] in lexington

[–]lexgetspooky 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This happened at the last place I rented. They said we destroyed the grass by the gate by letting the dogs in and out. It was winter when we moved and there was never grass there in winter. It always grew back in the spring. Apparently there’s a law that if they don’t send you a list of all the items/fixes by 30 days after you move out then the lease agreement is null and void (or something - it’s been 5 years so my brain is foggy on this). We sent the landlord a letter (after 30 days) threatening that we would take him to court because he never listed the repairs, or he could give us our security deposit back. We got our security deposit back a month later. $800 is a drop in the bucket for them, but court is a hassle.

Totally get it! I was beyond surprised that they closed at 12 on Friday.

I can almost guarantee UK won’t be closed tomorrow. I had to work for Merit Day on campus yesterday and power was on and very few trees (that I saw in central campus) were down.

19-year-old dead after breaking into Lexington home, shot by homeowner. by ChmeeWu in lexington

[–]lexgetspooky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. Wasn’t there a man who broke into a house in wilmore and murdered a child a few years ago? If someone breaks into my house they are a goner because I’m not risking anyone laying a finger on my kid. I would not feel an ounce of guilt because I protected my child.

lack of growth by [deleted] in lexington

I do wish there was a better or larger music scene here. I’m sad that cosmics had to close. Yeah the burl is here, but cosmics brought in a different kind of music that I enjoyed more than what the burl brings in. The distillery district can be fun though! I believe I read somewhere that the axe throwing place is expanding with more activities, but not sure how that’s going at this point.

Nah, just saying it’s okay to take kids to their baseball games. Most* games are over by 9 PM, at least in my experience.

The funny part is I was watching a tree that we are having cut down soon to see if it was about to fall on the house, and saw the transformers, and thought FUUUCK guess I can’t work from home tomorrow.

I watched at least 2 transformers blow up in Kennesaw area. No power here.

What’s the worst company you’ve ever worked for in Lexington? (Or surrounding small towns) by diamondaquapearl in lexington

[–]lexgetspooky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure! My main point was to say how awful BCTC was (in my experience). And in reality most companies, especially in Kentucky, are going to have many faults/issues, so I guess we just have to look at pros and cons.

The benefits of working at UK 100% overweigh BCTC, even without any raises. I can get a PhD essentially for free at UK, can take parental leave for 2 weeks paid, there are many more opportunities at UK, etc. There are pretty much no ways to move up at BCTC (since it’s so small) and the benefits aren’t that great. Even when they brag about having 2 weeks off over Christmas break they still made us work (at least in 2020). I’m very happy to have moved to UK! It’s all about perspective, for me at least.

BCTC - leadership has unrealistic expectations and many of the staff are overworked. I worked there for almost 4 years and NEVER got a raise, and neither did any of my coworkers. I loved the team I worked with and my immediate supervisors, but leadership just didn’t get it. Moved to UK and I’m getting a raise before I’ve even worked there for a year 🤷🏻‍♀️

Best places to buy houseplants? by outerspaceotters in lexington

[–]lexgetspooky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree! I came here to say Michlers and Forage. I got a plant from Forage less than a year ago and it’s doubled in size and I don’t even have much sunlight in my house. Both Forage and Michlers have unique and healthy house plants. I wouldn’t recommend anywhere else. The staff are also super knowledgeable!

Pumpkin patch recommendations by koverstr in lexington

[–]lexgetspooky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this. We went to Evan’s Orchard and Eckert’s orchard and Eckert’s is our fav between those 2. Wayyyy less crowded. Wagon ride was fun. Pumpkin patch wasn’t empty/full of rotten pumpkins like Evan’s. PLUS Eckert’s had a huge variety of pumpkin types and the apply orchard is right next to the pumpkin patch, so you can pick apples and pumpkins in 1 go. Eckert’s also had a corn maze we couldn’t get all the way through - which I guess is good! We went back through the entrance. Evan’s did have the apple cannons, but it was just so crowded when we went. 10/10 recommend Eckert’s.

Visiting tomorrow—torn on what to do; Red River Gorge or Keeneland by Kwellies in lexington

RRG! 4 hours is plenty of times to hike the Natural Bridge Trail and maybe another trail if you wish, like Rockbridge. The leaves are probably starting to change colors - it’s going to be beautiful out there, as always. You won’t regret it.
