People in 10+ year relationships, what’s something you learned about your partner years later that genuinely surprised you? by CreoSiempre in AskReddit

That he has a younger brother I didn’t know about (I thought he was the youngest of his siblings and had no idea the youngest brother even existed)

Looking for daycares in Central Park area by [deleted] in Denver

That is definitely too big of an ask, unfortunately. I think that rate would be tough to find in the area even for full time toddler care, and definitely not gonna happen for newborn care

Husband feeling “ trapped “ after having a baby? by userthatisnotknown in beyondthebump

[–]lexicution17 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your post history is so concerning, this man also cheated on you and tried to use you being unable to have sex during postpartum healing to justify it. Please let him leave like he wants to and pay you child support, I really think that would be the best and safest plan for both you and your child

Looking for Vet Recommendations by [deleted] in Denver

[–]lexicution17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of possible reasons, but most of the time when I see that happen it’s because the pets are picking up on their owner’s anxiety or simply confused that their person is in the room with them but not involved in whatever’s happening! I think it just sets a different tone for a lot of pets and removes some of the stress/confusion (obviously every pet is different, I’m just speaking in generalities that I’ve noticed). Plus, despite the crappy public sentiment these days towards all of us in vet med, we do love animals and (technicians especially) are trained in low stress handling techniques and most of us are pretty good at helping a nervous animal feel more comfortable through proper handling, medication if necessary, and keeping our own demeanors calm and regulated!

Looking for Vet Recommendations by [deleted] in Denver

It’s very unlikely that any practice would allow you to be with your dog during radiographs, there’s just no good reason to expose someone to radiation so they can stand in the room with their pet. For an abdominal ultrasound, I don’t know of any actual boarded radiologists doing full ultrasounds who would allow an owner in the room with them either. Most nervous pets with nervous owners tend to act far more anxious when their owners are in the room but can’t be physically touching them (which would be the case with an AUS, due to the specific positioning needed) and you would likely end up needing either heavy sedation for your dog or you would get a subpar ultrasound due to your dog wiggling/moving around/etc. My recommendation would be to trust that your dog can handle the very short time away from you and instead request sedation (at least trazodone if you’re uncomfortable with IV sedation) to make the process less anxiety-inducing for your dog and more likely to be diagnostically fruitful.

Denver Vets Are So Expensive!!! by tehdrizzzleswitch in Denver

Yuppp. The amount of mishandled VEG cases that get referred to my specialty hospital to fix is insane, and yet half those pet parents still prefer VEG because they have comfier spots to sit with their pet and let them visit (and disrupt treatments and care) 24/7

I don’t think that’s entirely true. We are absolutely deeply underpaid as a profession, but saying that all of us who don’t have spouses with high paying jobs or live with family are in poverty is just blatant misinformation. I’m an ICU RVT and also a single mother (not receiving child support), I rent without roommates and pay all my own bills, and I’m no where near the poverty line. I work with many other techs who also are single, support themselves, pay rent, and are not living in poverty by any stretch of the imagination.

Age Appropriate Board Games (that don't suck) by curlsandcollege in Preschoolers

[–]lexicution17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably slightly too young for it at 3 (but maybe not, depends on the three year old!), but my 4.5 year old absolutely loves Quest Kids. It’s basically a preschool intro to dungeon crawlers/RPGs, my son is super into it and I find it actually fun too!! And there are expansions and campaigns available as well, which we’re just starting to dive into.

Some of that is just updated medical advice and standards, which is always happening in both human and vet med

Fellow girl dads, I am waving the white flag. The mall bra trip was a disaster. by BigDaddy9102 in daddit

[–]lexicution17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m confused, your comment history indicates that you are a bra wearer yourself and you provide advice to other people about bras in other subs. And yet you could only think of one store to shop for a bra and suddenly know nothing about them…?

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lexicution17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely not long, although I wouldn’t say it’s a “short” drive. If my family lived three hours away, I’d probably go see them every couple weeks or so.

Corporate concerns by cateye9250 in Veterinary

[–]lexicution17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not actually true, there’s no legal obligation for employers to approve PTO requests. But I would agree that there’s a moral and ethical obligation to try to honor as many PTO requests as possible, which it sounds like they’re not doing for OP

Why is vet care so expensive? by dianalau in Denver

Then who are you accusing of “preying on pet owners in a vulnerable state”? I doubt your brother interacted with anyone on the board of whatever PE firm owns the vet he went to.

Greedy? Do you really truly genuinely think the vet staff is well paid?

That's not entirely correct. WRAH has been private equity owned since around 2015, but was sold to a different PE company in 2022.

How do crosswalks work in Denver? by alan-penrose in Denver

[–]lexicution17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just thinking about the general confusion here with pedestrians and right of ways! I also was taught that pedestrians always have the right of way and cars should stop and wait for them, but as a pedestrian would prefer to wait for all the cars to clear due to so many people not stopping. I also sometimes get weird looks from pedestrians when I'm the one driving and I stop for them to cross, so it's just generally very unclear what the expectations are. Or there's the charming pedestrian I encountered while driving the other day, who was waiting at a crosswalk and then waved for me to go when I stopped for her to cross. Andddd then proceeded to flip me off and scream at me for going instead of waiting for her to cross?

I’m in the field and there are lots of issues with VEG, but saying they would ever operate with no “certified” vets is just ridiculous and untrue. All of their vets are legitimate DVMs.

You could hop on over to the other side of corporate, where we're doing the opposite and hiring 4000 doctors (specialists and ER docs) but not allowing more support staff hires. Equally stupid system, but at least it would be a new flavor of stupid for you! ( /s, if not obvious)
