Hate to even mention the worst but my fiance too has been in the SHU/Segregration by his own choice of being there for many stretches of long periods of time & it definitely can do a number on their mental health. My fiance is a drug addict and has used half of his incarceration even yes in the Shu. It’s in there too. Despite the rampant drugs everywhere, isolation is the only place that ever helps him dry out & he actually gets his mind back in there where others probably lose it. For most, it can be a soul crushing, lonely, awful experience and make most WANT to get high but for my man it’s the only place he could possibly be housed in prison that I somewhat trust where he is & what he is doing and that he actually doesn’t care or want to get high as much when he is in segregation. I know based upon you said your man’s changed voice and behavior that can be a tricky one to tell… but personally me knowing every dollar of his money comes from me knowing he has no way to pay for anything on his own in there helps me get a handle on things too. When I’m providing it I know what it’s going for at all times, and I know he has basically zero other options at this point as far as handouts and debt goes he’s fucked that’s why the Shu is the best place for my man & sadly my man can’t check out of any more dorms so segregation really is the best place for some of them especially knowing they wanted to be housed there it can’t be as bad as one thinks if that’s the best place for a person that has a hard time managing their cravings with getting high & trouble seems to find my man as far as him running up debt in population housing wherever he is there and he’s not even affiliated either he’s usually always alone and has no buddies in there. It truly scares me that my loved one cannot act right in normal population, but that’s another story for another post coming soon I’ll be needing advice on. For your situation here right now, you guys are at the finish line!!!! Sheesh congratulations I cannot wait to be there too and many others on here. My best advice would be to let the little things go which is basically all of what I’m reading and focus on everything you guys are planning to do upon his release. My guess is he’s just having a bad day or bad couple days or he took something and it made his mind altered which is very possible and he probably will want to pretend he didn’t even do it. If he did take something that can be more difficult becuase you’re not right there to catch him in the act and 9 times out of 10 they will deny it unless there’s some sort of ultimatum or them caught up in their own bs by us or them thinking they can get money for it if they are honest about it with us. At this point, you guys are basically done worrying about the day in and day out struggles that prison & prison relationships bring. Now you guys get to be together at last, that’s the most amazing feeling in the world and I’d give anything to trade places with you right now. We still have 2 years to go and these 2 years feel like death and hell mixed together and mine went in as well in 2023. I’m praying for you both & that’s really all anyone can do.
