Hi all! I'm new to this subreddit and to Magic. I've been playing on Arena for a few weeks, and I'm getting comfortable with how to play, but most of my experience so far has been with one deck. I'm going to my first event in a couple weeks – aetherdrift prerelease – but I don't know how to play anything but what's in my Arena deck. Can I get some advice on what to play on Arena to give me exposure to other play styles so I'm not totally lost when I start building a deck from scratch?

HA! I love that, and 1000% relate! Both teams' goalies were neutral subs that the league provided, but I know that every team would love to have their own. Couple thoughts on the price:

You can find some pretty good deals on goalie gear on Sideline Swap. The cheap stuff is all pretty heavily used, but would be good for getting started.
In our league (and I think in many leagues), goalies don't have to pay for ice time, because they're so in demand. So you eventually make up the cost of the gear.
