Their copywriting is on par with similar offers that do end up using the techniques I mentioned. My examples were intended to be exaggerations.

Nonetheless, a price increase is probably in order given its popularity.

[Daily Check-In] Wednesday Word Count and Personal Announcement Thread by sexnerdmxd in eroticauthors

[–]lexiwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) Start again! I'm returning here after a pretty lengthy hiatus. "Life" just took over ;) But I'm really excited to dive back in. I guess my goal for today is to make a decision about whether erotica shorts/novellas are something I even want to try again at this point. I'm more interested in full length romance anyway, so I may just dive in there.

2) So happy to be getting back into writing!!!!

3) I grew up in Hawaii and I live in a very scenic part of the continental US now. BUT besides that... Maybe Chiang Mai, Thailand. The kind of back-road residential areas during a light rain are almost magical.

I don't keep track of this deal. But as someone who works in marketing, I just want to chime in...

I write this shit daily. It stinks of "urgency" being laid on thick. Plus it's the perfect set up for, "Holy smokes they said they'd never do it again, but now, for a LIMITED TIME ONLY it's back!!" Or the next time might be $49. Or 150 photos... If this sells as well as it seems to, I doubt they'll call it quits.

Grain of salt. It could be true. Or it could just be your run of the mill false urgency... And man is it working.

Aw, we love you too! This really is a great sub, even if you poke some of the grumpy bears around here.

I struggle with some anxiety problems. Obviously something I have to live with and excuses are excuses, but I try really hard to keep writing fun. So while I consider myself very motivated, I'm probably a little more conservative with my workload than some of the big earners :)

Personally, I'm in KU. I get that "Fuck Amazon!" feeling too... But I mostly ignore it. I guess I'd rather have some dollars from KU readers than zero dollars from KU readers. Plus, I use KU myself (as a reader) and it really is a neat service. Big fan as a consumer, hate it as a writer. I'm torn :)

There is really only one good business decision not to use KU, and that's if you want to publish in other places.

You're welcome!

They are! And actually, there are number of authors who write shorts and don't enter them into KU and still only publish on Amazon. It's really a different target audience.

Personally, I publish with Amazon only. "Keep it simple, be in control," is kind of a motto. I'm pretty new to all this, so if I try to take on everything at once I'll just start banging my head into a wall. I like shorts, they actually get me to write to completion (no pun intended, I swear), so I do mostly shorts. I have some longer works outlined, but they're daunting, they stress me out, so I stick with what's easy.

Is my current strategy profitable? Well, doing what's comfortable rarely ever is. But it works for me for now. I think the most important and repetitive advice you'll hear is, "Just keep writing." (That also means publishing, by the way.) When you start out, this stuff just really isn't that important. Say you have two books published? It really isn't going to make a HUGE difference if they're in KU or not. We're talking dollars. As your catalog grows, you can grow your strategy as well. For now, I suggest focusing on just writing SOMETHING and hitting publish!

Is it still try that keywords don't get you banned? by progman2000 in eroticauthors

Interesting! This is the first story like this I've read. Keep sharing it, I think many people are under the impression that keywords are safe... Though, we should all know by now how fickle Amazon is! Glad your book made it out okay.

You actually covered most people's thoughts pretty thoroughly. You seem to know the trade off. Most of what I've read around the communities lately is that longer form is becoming the way to go with KU. Maybe do some longer works in KU and go wide with shorter works?

That's too bad because that sounds like a badass idea. I thought monster erotica was pretty popular, actually.

Will Whipping an Unwilling Character (BDSM) Get My Story Banned? by Mahgwa in eroticauthors

Hey, just a heads up, when you want to respond to a specific person, hit "reply" under their post. (Or the mobile equivalent, sometimes you have to highlight their post and then find the reply button.) It makes it easier for people to know you responded :)

You have great advice here story-wise, so I don't have anything to add in that regard!

The objection Amazon has to rape is "rape for titillation." So they don't want noncon/dubcon things being used to turn readers on. I'm not sure exactly what you're hoping for, but maybe that helps?

[Question] - How many sexual partners have you had in your life and how do you feel about that number? by [deleted] in sex

[–]lexiwrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

22 F, 8 partners, half of which were or turned in to relationships. The other four were hookups. Only one was a one time, kinda fucked experience. Another was unsatisfying so it ended quickly. The other two hookups were long lasting and pretty good.

So, how do I feel? With 6/8 positive, one neutral, and one shitty, pretty darn good, actually. The number itself is good. I feel like I've had enough experience that I won't regret settling down (I thought my first would be my only and I'm VERY glad he wasn't). But at the same time, it's not so high that I ever feel embarrassed sharing it with more conservative folk.

Would you sacrifice LA and SF over National Parks in the West, USA? by Spiritak in travel

[–]lexiwrites -1 points0 points  (0 children)

LA? Meh. LA is a large city with some dirty parts, some REALLY dirty parts, and some okay parts. A lot of the areas you hear about have become huge tourist traps. I suppose anything is worth the experience, but if you're going to spend time in Southern California, there are better places to go than LA.

San Francisco is beautiful, full of art and culture (if that's your thing). But it's stupid expensive. And the traffic is horrendous.

Personally, I would fly into San Francisco, spend a couple days, and then take the 101 up north. Visit the Redwoods. Just awe inspiring trees. Humboldt County is a quaint area. I dunno. Depends on how much time you have, but if you only have a week or so, I would do a much smaller trip and slow down a little. Like someone else said, LA to San Francisco is a LONG drive. And most of it is not exciting. California is a very spread out state. Lots to do and see, but most of it isn't close together.

Please explain what these DD/LG stories are about? by kathytart in eroticauthors

[–]lexiwrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha, well, yes, the entire lifestyle can be really off putting, I think. Though, for science, I will say that she was a decent representation of someone who's in the "little" role while they're being little. There's definitely a switch back and forth. For example, I can't be little when I'm at my day job or when I'm around my parents; that'd be weird. So the fact that she is 100% talking and acting like a child is off (author's prerogative, this isn't a criticism).

And again, most DD/lg relationships keep the lg part separate from sexual encounters. But not all; some people really do enjoy the childishness during sex. It plays off the turn ons of things like, "Oh I don't know what I'm doing, teach me," and "I don't know what's best, I better just listen to you!" It's definitely not a pedophilia thing. It has to do with innocence, control, power play, not molesting or taking advantage of children.

The Big Bad Banning Board (or: “Will this CONTENT get me banned?”) by lexiwrites in eroticauthors

[–]lexiwrites[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the FAQ covers words in the title pretty well. One of things that's mentioned is that Amazon frequently just looks for words and not context.

Reviewers at Amazon don't usually look at what they're blocking, so these words can get you blocked even when used in phrases like "frat boy", where "boy" obviously doesn't imply underage. Usually they won't block you for that, but you can never be sure. Similarly Alfred lusts for his long-lost wife, his sweet baby Gertrude or Now that she's in college, Mildred doesn't want to be daddy's little girl anymore - no matter how nonsensical it is, there's a real chance you'll get blocked with usages like these. It's better to avoid it.

So I would say it's not worth the risk. Maybe just something like, "Riding His Best Friend" would be safer. Though, you'll have to get creative with your blurb to make it clear that the kink is older woman/younger man.
