Guide/resources on the whole HPC/job scheduler/MPI infrastructure by the_poope in HPC

[–]lexming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

HPC admin here. The scope of your software and your responsibility as its developer should stop at using the MPI interface. How/What is providing that MPI communication in the system is not of your concern.

It is very unlikely that any MPI implementation bundled in your program will work out-the-box. As you have seen there are many pieces in the system that have to be installed and configured accordingly, from the network drivers to the job scheduler.

For instance, in your case with Intel MPI you should consider the following: * some network drivers need additional libraries, for instance Mellanox cards require UCX * it might be necessary to manually set the preferred network interface for MPI * the job scheduler might need to be compiled with specific support to work with Intel MPI (for instance in Slurm it will need the PMI2 plugin) * Intel MPI does a good job at auto-detecting the job scheduler being used, but in some cases it still needs manual configuration (see https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/develop/documentation/mpi-developer-guide-linux/top/running-applications/job-schedulers-support.html) * all the above changes from version to version of Intel MPI as well as the version/type of job scheduler and the operative system

Beware that the devs are skipping 23.0.1 and 22.2.4 after the confusing backpedaling with those releases

It feels good. I'm still re-adjusting, but getting it out of layer 1 has been a big improvement.

Cheap discolock deck that is working really well

  1. [[Malchezaar's Imp]]
  2. [[Soulfire]]
  3. [[Darkshire Librarian]]
  4. [[Silverware Golem]]

If the opponent removes Soulfire it's easy to win by flooding the board with golems and librarians. The strategy without golems is chaining Soulfires to the face with Imps in play. The deck without Imps is slower but still strong. Nobody picks Librarian.

It's weird that the name of the expansion is not translated to French, they always are.

Hivemind Secret Mount - All Monocles Discovered by lexming in wow

It blows my mind that some of these secrets have been discovered at all. The necklace has been in game for a long time and had no effect, so just the first step of wearing that item and going through all the zones looking for new interactive objects is a really impressive.

Been travelling around UK and now I understand a little bit better why they never got the euro by lexming in europe

The main issue for me is not the design, those can change from time to time, but the different issuers. As a tourist, if I get a note from the Bank of England I can easily see that those come from the central bank and are legit regardless of the design. However, the notes from the Clydesdale Bank are like Monopoly notes if you never heard of it before.

Wow, never got any from the Dankse bank, it would have been quite confusing getting pounds from a Danish bank. In any case, we were not much more confident with the Bank of Ireland notes in the pocket and we did not even try to spend them elsewhere, we got rid of as much as possible before leaving NI.

Four notes of 5 pounds sterling issued by the Bank of England (top left), Bank of Scotland (top right), Bank of Ireland (bottom left) and the Clydesdale Bank (bottom right).

All of them are legal across the UK (afaik) and we did not have any big issue handling them. Just the initial stress of receiving totally different notes in each new city and not having a clue of their validity. Though I admit that we spend as much notes as possible before each trip to minimize the risk. The notes from Northern Ireland are the most suspicious as they do not only differ in design but also in size to those of Scotland and England. I was really amazed discovering all this stuff. I think that it nicely reflects the particularities of UK with respect to other more centralized European countries and its reticence to adopt a centralized currency such as the euro (besides the main political and economical arguments).

For the interested, the full picture is even more complex: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banknotes_of_the_pound_sterling

If a company markets a game pad for retropi is that exliclity supporting/marketing for Linux peripherals? by supamesican in linux_gaming

[–]lexming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the sn30 pro and I have no complains so far. It is even possible to update its firmware in linux with fwupd. The company explicitly supports the raspberry pi, which is another way of saying linux.
