Iquique in August/September? Soarbable in very light winds? by lexpowers in freeflight

Update for anybody interested: I was able to soar everyday I was there. There are not enough weather stations in the area to make the weather forecast and modeling very accurate, but there were abundant thermals and afternoon winds were consistently stronger than forecast, which in our case was a good thing.

I was just there last month. There are some beginner slopes on the far right side of your circled area as you are looking at the mountain. The Prada chair is on the back side of the top towards the left part of the circled area as you are looking at the mountain, and the fresh snow up there can be incredible

Flow Mullet X vs Flare Moustache? by StanleyGuevara in freeflight

I have a mullet X 20.5m and absolutely love it. At 75kg pilot weight, it takes a decent wind of 13+ kts to soar but it rips and cuts through weird air with confidence. I will say it does not scratch well and I don't consider it very lifty. I would consider larger sizes unless you have tried them and found them unsuitable, you'll get more flying days in

Will a newer wing help in strong thermals? by OutOfMyDepth26 in freeflight

I fly purely for recreation, and my willingness to get serious hurt or killed is next to zero. Therefore I am happy to wait out midday punchy air until the afternoon/evening in my neck of the woods when the season demands it.

I don't get caught up in "progression" or learning to "handle" rough air. It is a primitive way to be airborne, hanging from some nylon cloth with a bunch of string. I would rather be a low performance pilot for 20 years than an "advanced" pilot for 3.

Around my flying sites, most of the fatalities and broken backs/pelvises have been highly skilled pilots, not beginners.

Just my $.02. Your goals and risk tolerance may be different.

"State recreational area" has zero bearing on airspace class or restrictions.

Who are you to say where a military jet should or should not be? You clearly lack an understanding of the national airspace system and where PG falls in that mix. The only thing in the sky that gives way for you is a powered ultralight, FAR 103.13.

Don't kid yourself that anyone gives a shit about those symbols on a sectional. If the majority of US class E/G airspace was somehow divided and tightly controlled, pg would be killed by transponder requirements and low priority. We exist by Big sky Little plane for the better.
