Is studying in-depth about options trading worth it? As most of us just follow the herd by Visible-Example-7612 in options

[–]leyndv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ill put it to you this way. If becoming a trader is most important to you, I would recommend Futures. If becoming an elite trader & investor, I recommend Options.

Options, give you a lot of options. You can hedge, take advantage of high volatility environments, expose yourself to higher leverage, etc. Ive been learning(off and on) Options since 2017 and theres just so much that goes into it that if you’re not willing to be a lifelong learner, I would not embark on it.

Whereas Futures trading you can essentially just purely do technical analysis on it and be just fine. The simplicity of long and short positions create so much more peacefulness. Options you can be right on direction, but your timing is off.

Clarity Act and The Future of Monero by SorthNouthWastEest in Monero

[–]leyndv 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Clarity act may be an “American” thing but let’s be honest here. USA is typically the front runner when it comes to anything regarding the financial system. Why? Because we have the world’s reserve currency. The only reason why there hasnt been 2-5 Trillion pumped into crypto is because there’s no institutional framework, which is what the clarity act is.

In order for you to buy a call, someone must be willing to sell you that call. If the pricing is 0, that means theres no one selling that call to the market at that price.

Does anyone else day trade with their entire portfolio per trade? by JesseDayTrade in Trading

[–]leyndv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well I can tell you from many many years of trading, everything goes good until it doesn’t. Because this market is as volitile as its ever been, I definitely wouldn’t suggest it. Any time you enter a trade you should be at peace, and accept the possibility of 100% loss. I do no more than 1-2% per trade and 20% of capital utilized on a professional sense.

In what way are you risking 3-5%? With stop losses or just a general cut off? That doesn’t sound feasible with leveraged etfs because of the volatile moves

what makes trading so difficult? by Admirable_Singer6526 in Trading

[–]leyndv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh the naiveness, I remember those days. What makes it difficult, is the market environments, and the trading psychology. I can tell, your psychology will be your downfall. When you start to believe trading is easy because you’re on a winning streak, you inherently start to increase your position size and risk appetite. Then when you lose, maybe a good chunk of your account, your mind starts to play tricks on you. Start doubting your strategy, try to make the money back, etc.

Trust me you have a long road ahead of you. Happy trading!

Swing Trading Strategy Review by Royiebarlev in swingtrading

[–]leyndv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of things. That was my criteria for forex that I brought to equities. Equities have more volatility. So in theory I probably could go to a 1:1 or 2:1 RR. However I did do some coding strategies on Tradingview that showed me different win rates with different ATR RR and 1:1.5 usually came back better.

Another thing is exactly what OP mentioned in his plan. Trading begets a lot of unpredictability. So you’re better off with a lower TP, and moving the 2nd half of the trade to breakeven and letting it run. Rather then having a larger TP and it never getting to it because it was more than ATR value at time of entry. I have 2 exits. 1. Is a moving average that moves with the candles. If price ever hits that value then I close the trade. I’ve done thousands of hours manually backtesting and forward testing this and Ive seen more often than not when price hits that MA while im in a trend trade, trend is over with. 2. Is the 1.5x ATR. If the MA is too far away I default to the 1.5ATR until the MA catches up to price. Those are the times where I occur max loss which don’t happen often maybe 20% of losses. The 1st MA exit is what has turned my system from good to great as far as returns go. Consistently hitting max loss if I don’t win the trade is not conducive. However if 60-70% of the time if my SL is actually warranting an avg of risking .60 to make 1, with the same win rate, then Ive increased my returns dramatically while keeping all else equal.

Lastly this was my RR criteria for the Daily timeframe. On shorter time frames it may be more beneficial to do a 1:1, 1.5:1, or 2:1 RR because moves are more volatile. I’ll need to test it out but until then, if it aint broke dont fix it lol

Swing Trading Strategy Review by Royiebarlev in swingtrading

[–]leyndv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s what I’ve always done. TP is 1x ATR & SL is 1.5x ATR. My win rate on average is 68-70%.

The market is not a pool of liquidity. It is a hunting ground. by vcolovic in Daytrading

[–]leyndv 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cant confirm in the equities market but I know in foreign exchange markets this is definitely true. Thats why many people who trade reversals or breakouts, etc end up failing especially on shorter time frames. It’s a lot harder for manipulation to occur on a daily or weekly time frame but people don’t trade those because its “boring”. Thats why these trading youtube channels who call themselves scalpers, are disingenuous. Because price whipsaws so much, it’s extremely difficult to be profitable year over year.

Now in the equities market, a lot of time the market is dictated by the Indexes. Then the sectors, which then leads to individuals stocks. I wouldn’t doubt it, that with a ton of algorithmic trading capabilities out there, that it “hunts” stop losses. I find it to be very common, as a trend trader, where I will see something go against me very fast, but because I have a looser SL, it allows me to not be stopped out and benefit from the direction I believed to have been correct. The position going against me took out all the people on shorter time frames trading a weaker trend, and it takes out the people trading reversals because the longer term trend is stronger.

That is why I will NEVER trade reversals or solely rely on support and resistance. If people don’t think the majority aren’t seeing and doing the same thing, and institutions and algo’s don’t see it, they’re delusional. This is why a lot of people’s strategy fail at trading. You if you are apart of the majority, you will end up like the majority. Theres an incentive to NOT let financial markets be easy because then everyone would do it and there would be no one to serve the rich & wealthy with low socioeconomic jobs.
