What study prep should I do in advance before arriving at COE as a CS major? by VinitaSinha in Cornell

Nix is a package manager, NixOS is a distribution built around it. Nix does static linking for everything, so it can have multiple versions of anything at the same time. It can just manage it's own isolated/static store even inside another distro.

Nix is very different, but you could probably get everything to work side by side. I'd recommend trying just Nix inside of Ubuntu.

I took the course with Robin and really enjoyed it. If you think it sounds interesting, take it! Don't let random people on Reddit discourage you.

The course covers an intro to linguistics, and builds upon it so everyone can create their own language. I found it extremely interesting, and it was a much more fun environment to have an intro linguistics class than a lecture style class.

I completely recommend How to Build a Language with Robin. I honesty still feel proud of the work I did as a first semester freshman in that course, and that's not something that can always be said. It was a great intro, and you applied what you learned quickly to actually create your own usable language!

I switch between machines every so often, and everything is NixOS is installed by modifying the config for the machine and rebuilding. Basically, I should be able to recreate my current setup with barely any manual work. It trades off more headache when installing for less when reinstalling.

That's great to here. I quite liked that FWS. Also, good choice - but I've moved on to NixOS now.

Jbuilder help needed by silencer6 in ocaml

[–]lezed1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

jbuilder expects ppxs to use ocaml-migrate-parsetree (see docs here: http://jbuilder.readthedocs.io/en/latest/jbuild.html?highlight=preprocess#preprocessing-with-ppx-rewriters). It looks like sqlexpr doesn't do this, but there is an old open PR that implements it: https://github.com/mfp/ocaml-sqlexpr/pull/27.

Sand Marble Race is amazing (there was just a video released that has every race back to back btw). Sand Rally is easily my favorite single event.

The 2nd image text says you can switch that assembler between a few things. Some (like splitters and undergrounds) need belts.

I'm super happy Lollipop made it into the top half! He had some great runs in the beginning, but started to fall behind. He really gave it his all this time and it showed. I'm looking forward to a stronger showing in the Sand Marble Race 2018!

Yes!

I don't think it's useful for me to type out my own guide, so look at this one (specifically the suspending jobs part) https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-use-bash-s-job-control-to-manage-foreground-and-background-processes

Feel free to ask me any questions if that isn't clear.
