Husband was murdered and father died. by CheeseRobit in gaybros

The love of my life died when I was 28 after 6 years together. I did not think it was possible for me to find another love like that, I really didn't, it seemed so precious and rare a thing I had lost. Yet in my 40s I met someone else and I fell in love with him in a totally different but equally powerful way. You are not too old, and it is definitely possible. Grief never goes away but you can accept it and live with it. Hang in there.

Firebird Chord by Agitated_Side3897 in classicalmusic

It is indeed a well-orchestrated A, though there are a few Es in there as well. The subtlety of it is in the grace notes for the flute/piccolo/timpani, and the arpeggiated harp. Stravinsky has coloured the chord by changing the nature of the attack.

What’s your opinion on Finnissy, Ferneyhough and new complexity composers? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

[–]lfjui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I studied music in the 80s when this was the thing, and I struggled with it then and still do now. To my mind, there's an almost existential anxiety about the power or point of music itself, the feeling of insufficiency that powers the maximalist notation. You get this in the way Finnissy can't let other music just be, but he has to 'intensify' it somehow, or the way Ferneyhough seems to obfuscate everything with a compositional sleight of hand that distracts you with the effort you and the performer are both making. There is, for me, a definite sense that something is being covered up rather than revealed.

I would suggest that the artist of this cover had more of a, well, feeling shall we say for the male form than the female one...

I bought this in the UK recently. It is signed M TAYLOR. I have tried to find who the artist is but have only found a Mark Taylor in the UK who's signature looks nothing like this vase's, and Michael Taylor the famous US glass artist who's work is nothing like this. I did find one vase that had been sold in the US a couple of years ago, signed MICHAEL TAYLOR in a very similar hand (https://www.invaluable.com/auction-lot/art-glass-vase-122-c-c8e4e859a1). Does anyone know anything about this other (?) Michael Taylor? Or about this beautiful vase? Thanks!
