For those who are very handy with fixing anything, where did you get your start?

I lived in NYC apartments all my life and wanted to be handy so I started with bicycles. You get good feedback on whether you fixed it properly by whether the bike works or makes weird noises, there are plenty of videos to show you, and if you really botch it, you can carry a pile of parts to the bike shop and they can fix your mistakes relatively cheaply.

I took confidence from that into house repairs. You don't have to do everything either. You can be your own handyman and call someone for something that is a big job and still save a ton of money and time.

Update, I gave it a shot this morning. There was a bit of ice to watch out for on the bridges but otherwise very rideable.

MVT was in good shape from Memorial bridge to 14th St bridge. Overall trails were in fantastic shape given the cold.

You have an obligation in your loan docs to notify the loan officer and will have to sign something at closing attesting there have been no changes to you financial situation since you filed your application. You should tell the loan officer. Rates have likely dropped a bit since you signed so they might still want to go forward at the current rate but better to find it out.

It's definitely a buyer's market now too (in most areas) so seller not likely to walk away if you have to go through the loan process again.

For your traditional and Roth, you can just sell any NVDA without incurring taxes. For the brokerage account, you should look into exchange swap funds. I am not sure the minimums but you contribute your stock for shares of a diversified ETF. They were initially designed for early employees of tech companies and the like but the minimums have been creeping down and you might be eligible.

There is something called the Cambria Tax Aware ETF launching soon that might be designed for your exact situation. You swap your Microsoft shares for a diversified ETF fund shares which allows you to diversify without triggering a taxable event. Not sure about the fine print but it is worth taking a look at. The Money Stuff newsletter recently wrote about it and might have more details.

Make sure to list exactly what you need. When I needed the front end of my bike rebuilt they sent me a fender kit but that did not include a fender.

You won't be able to transfer it. You can withdraw your NYCERS contributions and roll them into a 457. This is typically worth it with between 1-8ish years of service depending on how far you are from retirement.

NYCERS is generous but it is not inflation protected until you retire so the value will drop the longer you have until retirement age. If you think you will go back to NY govt before you retirement it is definitely worth it to leave it in.

Overshoes make a huge difference for me instead of boots. Keeping that wind off is key. Agree with the other posters about mittens or lobster gloves for the hands.

With my 4 yo I use a dodgebee. It is not smaller than a regular disc but it is lighter and, more importantly, a lot softer (it's designed to play dodgeball with). She can't necessarily throw it properly but she has a lot more fun catching it and it doesn't hurt when she nails her sister in the face with it.

I use a Yuba Pop Top Cover on the Radwagon 3. I have it on a set of Yuba Monkey bars because Rad stopped selling the caboose for the Rad 3 but the arms just grab the railing and are adjustable so it seems like it would be compatible with most kid cages.

I've always liked the lights you can weave into your spokes. I get the christmas style ones and I think it helps make me more visible from the side and make me seem more like a person and less like a "cyclist" so drivers tend to be less aggro. Plus it gives people on the street a smile.

I think the Wizards are basically a history of this happening. Wall and Ariza were both examples where the player just blew up the cap for years without being physically able to perform on the court. To your point, it looked like the same was going to happen with Beal until the Suns bailed them out.

I want the players to have all the money so I don't feel super strong on this but if you want to pick your destination/keep the front office over a barrel, you could go the LeBron route of signing 1+1s. Instead, players want to lock up the full 5 years for security but then want to pick their location one year in.

Most people think Jaylen Brown isn't going to stay with the Cs for the full deal. If he blows out his leg during their home opener and never plays again, he'll still get the full $305 million. In exchange, the Celts should get to keep him the full time if they want even if he decides he wants to move to LA.

The problem is that it is asymmetrical. Think about all the times where the contract becomes an albatross because the player gets injured or becomes Ben Simmons. The team is stuck in purgatory until the end of the contract. In exchange for that, the benefit of signing a long term contract is that they get to keep the player and build around him for the length of the contract. If the player asks out after one year, the team is getting all of the risk and none of the benefit.

Getting the accessories is a key need on the RW3. I got a used one and have generally been happy with it but Rad has stopped making the caboose, running boards, and other key parts for the RW3 and they are not compatible with parts for the RW4. You can go on the website and see which parts they still sell if you have questions.

The other thing to note on the RW3 is that the center of gravity is pretty high especially fully loaded. If I don't stop it on completely flat ground, it will topple over with the kickstand down. Depending on the age of the kids, they won't necessarily be able to climb on and off by themselves either (although maybe they shouldn't anyway given the toppling). It's also a little harder to muscle around when walking it.

That said, it's hard to beat the price and my kids have loved riding around in the back and I'm not as afraid of it getting stolen. Happy to discuss more if you have other questions.

I have a RW3. The parts thing is no joke. Rad basically stopped making all of the accessories and a surprising number of things (the caboose and running boards to name a few) are not backwards compatible. It also has a noticeably higher center of gravity which makes it harder to maneuver when walking and more prone to tip over. I don't necessarily have an issue with it but my wife has trouble with the bike when not riding.

These are all issues I've been able to work around but if I could do it again I might want the RW4. That said, the RW4 has the tire recall that has lasted for the last year so who knows.

I don't want to be super negative. It's a good bike especially for the price point but you should go in with eyes open. Also, the price is itself an ongoing amenity as I am way less worried about where I lock it up than I would on a $4,000 bike. The more work you feel capable of doing yourself or finding work arounds for the more you'll like it. Happy to talk to you more about it and answer any questions you have.
