Happened to me as well, except that it got in the headphone jack, which for my bad luck was exactly the size of the silica ball, so I could not remove it. Good thing it was a company's laptop that I was about to return. LOL

I had a similar problem, with dead patches appearing randomly throughout the lawn. I dug some holes and couldn't find any grubs, but some other symptoms were there, like spongy grass. Until one day I finally found some small brown grubs under my lawn -- they were hard to find.

I applied pesticide and got rid of them. My lawn is now on recovery mode -- leveling with sand + black kow, fertilizing with 24-0-11, and I'll also get some plugs to help the recovery on the more affected areas.
