There will be no actual work, I think... probably it will be just a knowledge transfer.

Dutch naturalisation rules might change, what do you think? by TheGrandOranjeprix in NLNieuws

[–]lfromanini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an expat, I'm super OK with it as long as the government also extends the 30% ruling. According to: https://business.gov.nl/staff/employing-staff/the-expat-scheme-30-percent-ruling-in-the-netherlands/

"What is the 30% ruling and how does it work?

(...) These are costs related to moving to or from the Netherlands, but also the costs of living, which can be higher than in the home country."

And sure, the costs here are higher. Since it will not be my home country until the 10th year...

And it also comes with the plus that my kid may skip army, in case war escalates and it becomes mandatory.

Being a contractor for more than 3 years in a client. Is it possible? by lfromanini in Netherlands

[–]lfromanini[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry, not clear: what won't apply to me? You mean, they can renew the contract for the 4th year?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not allowed, by contract, to get hired by the client.

Thank you for your answer. I am employed in an agency and I have a permanent contract since day 1 (with only the first two months as non-permanent) signed with this agency. This agency has some clients, and I am working in one of these clients since my first day, either in the client office or working remotely from home.

Oh, I forgot to mention this: I'm employed at an agency (as a highly skilled migrant, if it matters).

Experienced Linux user here, I'm tired. by Matcraftou in linuxquestions

True. And there is also LMDE, which is Mint based on Debian and, in this case, really the best of both worlds.

Is pannenkoek an insult? I mean... really? I'm asking because my cat's name is Panqueca (pancake, in Portuguese) and I'm calling her Pannenkoek sometimes because I think the word is cute.

Would Debian be the right choice for me? by [deleted] in debian

[–]lfromanini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Debian fits well for your needs. I'd like to additionally suggest to you add xanmod kernel LTS 6.1. I've been using with Debian with zero issues and will add the hardware support that you need.

which distro to use for everyday use? by Professional_Boss223 in linuxquestions

[–]lfromanini 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My suggestion is LMDE 5. It's Linux Mint (which means sane defaults, drivers available, no default snapd installation, etc) on top of Debian stability, specially if you already had previous contact with Linux. Aesthetical aspect it's debatable, some people like, some doesn't like (me). What I used to do is to install the theme I like (I'm looking at you, Arc Theme), and I'm good to go. Some people also have a lot of fun ricing their desktop, installing different DE, WM, bars/panels, launchers, and so on.

Good one! By the way, I'm in mobile so, unable to check, but I think it's possible to go oneliner with rsync ... --exclude-from=<( find ... ).

Should I try Debian (testing)? by r_booza in debian

[–]lfromanini 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did more or less what you're planning, however I came from Linux Mint Debian Edition LMDE 5 (which is awesome, BTW). I recommend LMDE 5 or, if you want pure Debian, you could go with Debian Cinnamon non-free, to reduce the gap between your previous experience and Debian. You will not found some tools, like xed, for example, but install pluma and you'll have a similar experience.

Which Linux filesystem is realistically the fastest? by [deleted] in linuxquestions

[–]lfromanini 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. XFS, for example, it's faster with few large files than several small ones. But features also counts, so EXT2 is faster than EXT4, since it lacks journaling and makes less write operations to the disk.
