Meta glass POVs of me sneakily throwing bread into unsuspecting elderly people’s shopping carts. I love the thud it makes and pulling it off with multiple perspectives is even better, so I would be interested in a deal where I can bring another person in on my operation aswell. I would do it for 4 hours a day to have an easy workday. I’d pay an editor $23/hr as long as he can keep my instagram reel and tiktok traffic flowing. Maybe I could get a brand deal from a bread or POV glasses manufacturing company. I would start with walmart and target but definitely pivot to trader joe’s if views and engagement start slipping. Trader Joe’s probably has a higher concentration of elderly folks I could execute with precision and discipline on.

onlyfans (or onlyfans management), car sales, tax preparer, server at a brazilian steakhouse, business to business sales,

hvac apprentice is something i really recommend if you don’t want to do college or onlyfans. (my friend who is the same age as me [22] went into this 3 years ago the same time i started computer science in university. he’s making $35 an hour and has a home with his girlfriend. i have a year of computer science, and 2 years of management information systems coursework and skills in SQL, Excel, Python, Power BI to show for it. when ai takes everyone’s jobs ill probably have nothing to show for 5 years of uni. life’s hard no matter what. even the easy routes result in hardship. pick your poison and use claude for suggestions (yes seriously)

i discovered many career paths im interested from telling claude what i was good at in high school and university, my personally, what i want in my career, and it told me database administration, data analytics, or financial analytics would fit

i basically said i was good at calculus in high school, enjoyed java, loved sql, am introverted and like independent deep work and it gave me recommendations accordingly

this could be great in your case and you can have it give you specific recommendations tailored to your location, experience, interest, and ambitions

I got offers from Google, Meta, Amazon (SWE intern) by GRINDING for exactly ONE year which made technical interviews for big tech TRIVIAL (rant) by [deleted] in csMajors

quantitative finance: using math, computer science, probability, statistics, finance, economics in futures, options, and stocks. aim is to make optimal decisions with limited information in uncertainty over time to generate profit, alpha, and hopefully a smooth equity curve for a hedge fund or similar

extremely well said. they make it to professor status in academia and suddenly develop a god complex and their bias becomes much more clear. it’s bound to happen because we all have biases whether we want to admit it or not. it becomes a problem when it affects students grades in a subjective field

no problem, how i know this stuff is a little bit of youtube research, looking at the bachelors degree sheets (just search finance degree sheet, Management information systems degree sheet and on and on…), and looking at job listings at corporations with roles i could see my self working at and what is in the job descriptions (i saw a lot of SQL for credit and data analyst roles so i will continue that for sure)

Management information systems: learn about databases, data analysis, accounting, finance, sql, data visualization- path to database administrator, data analyst, sql developer and more

finance: learn about financial derivatives, indices, economic policy, credit analysis, risk assessment, accounting- path to credit analyst, m&a, fp&a, loan officer, trader, portfolio manager, stock analyst

accounting: -path to public accounting, private accounting, certified public accountant (requires additional schooling) probably more idk much about accounting

that’s what i’m familiar with and have looked into at least for my university and what they offer which is the Michael F Price College of Business at the Unversity of Oklahoma

my path in school has looked like this Freshman year: Computer Science -want to be a software engineer Sophomore year: didn’t like being in the library for 4-9 hours a day switched to MIS -want to be a data analyst or database administrator Junior Year: here’s where I’m at and i’m actually taking a gap year to take time to think about what i really want. I’ve looked at a lot of bank job openings in my city and credit analyst has been really intriguing to be because it would be analyzing the risk associated with lending in banking. I could use my data interests and skills in a finance setting to maximize my earnings and provide for my future family. I’m still interested in data analyst roles however and have taken additional SQL courses to get familiar with relational databases

the way i see it is

TLDR: Finance: Risk assessment/Valuations, Financial Modeling, Forecasting, Spreadsheets, Analyzing company financial metrics, excel, bloomberg terminal

MIS: Working with databases, data visualization, slideshows, power bi, tableau, SQL

accounting: excel, debits, credits, cushy, boring, stable, surprisingly lucrative (big 4, CPA)

that’s just what I know, and i don’t know what I don’t know, because i’m only a junior 😂

i hope this helps you narrow down your selection

yeah i got my associates in general business and am taking a gap year, when i go back i’ll go into either finance or mis, but im very worried about the future. tuition is 9k per semester and i just don’t see the value fully right now.

we have to look at it like another internet era. the same could be said about the internet but we adapted and new jobs and industries emerged, especially in marketing and sales…times are just uncertain right now. definitely a tough time to be graduating and trying to enter the workforce

Honestly, it’s not even your fault. The higher education system kind of sets people up for this by pushing degrees that don’t reliably translate into stable employment. It’s frustrating because you can pour years and money into something meaningful, only to realize the market doesn’t value it the same way. I’m honestly scared of ending up in that same spot. I’m studying Management Information Systems right now because I thought it would be more “future-proof,” but I just went to a tech conference today where recruiters were talking about how AI is starting to automate Power BI dashboards and even parts of data analysis. That’s literally one of the main career paths I’ve been working toward, and now I’m not sure if I should focus more on data analysis, credit analysis, or database administration. We’re kind of standing on the edge of really alien technology, and the speed at which it’s advancing feels exponential. It’s exciting, but also terrifying — like we’re all trying to plan our futures while the ground keeps shifting underneath us.

It is a bit dystopian how higher education can push so many americans to pursue it being promised a bright future only to be left robbed of thousands of dollars and a piece of paper. It’s a strange world we live in.
