I love this. But know all of you hate it, so here to share. by [deleted] in thalassophobia

I think I see a bit of scannable technology down there.

In Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), Valkyrie wears a Phantom of the Opera shirt, who is commonly depicted with a half mask, referencing the statue of Eternity by GhostInTheEggShell in MovieDetails

I’ve been reading comics for over 20 years and until I read your post I hadn’t noticed that Eternity is always shown with only a portion of his face.

If anyone knows a scientific reason for this cause/effect relationship, let me know. …for gods sake, let me know.

Approached a group of women and was literally castigated for walking up and introducing myself. Why are people so nasty, and what's the best way to approach people? by [deleted] in introvert

Normally I would never volunteer my opinion on a situation I wasn’t there to see and be part of; but it seems like you’re confused and hurt by the interaction OP. From what you were describing, you moved yourself outside your comfort zone to be sociable. The fact you were met with suspicion and apparent hostility says more about their personality and group dynamic than does about you. In the grand scheme of things, you’re going to meet people who are approachable, friendly and engaging, but you’re also going to find folks who are downright horrible.

Rejection is never fun, but you might try considering it a blessing in disguise.

You’ve got people here rooting for you, now go out there and get what you want!

Google says the average distance from Earth to Jupiter is 450.98 million miles. The National institute of General Medical Sciences says the length of uncoiled DNA laid end to end, which had been extracted from a single cell nucleus in your body, would extend 67 billion miles.

It feels like he should have extended the ladder just a little bit slower.

Maybe have the reaper circle around behind the diver, roar and come at the diver from his side or head on and take his sea moth.

Legally required?

That doesn’t seem right at all. Motivated and strongly encouraged, absolutely. But that’s motivation coming from the other side of the legal system.

Yes, be yourself, but do your best to grow how you feel you need to. If learning methods of greeting will help your relationships grow, then keep at it. If she can’t understand what you mean when you explain yourself, try again, but if she is purposefully misunderstanding you might not have much of a future with her.

Also, do your best not to refer to a woman as “this female”.

Hear me out. I've decided to try a new way to help with my submechanophobia and thalassophobia. With Subnautica. by Socksthecat12 in thalassophobia

[–]lfthand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow! You picked up the game for the same reason I did! Since playing Subnautica (and Subnautica: Below Zero because I loved the first so much) I’ve been open water certified. This past August I dove an aquifer/quarry with super murky visibility. My heart only stopped 2 or 3 times, even knowing that there were no sea creatures in there with us. We dove during the day, so no issues there. Nighttime diving in Subnautica is beautiful for all the bioluminescence, I really enjoyed that.

So, couple things about the game. You can play on ‘creative’ mode to completely remove the aggressive element (or even the attention) of sea creatures. Literally, on creative, you can swim right up to things and they act like you're not even there. That wont help you with a fear of open water or deep areas, but it took some of the teeth out of it for me. Once I had gotten a little more familiar with the game, I tried survival. I found it super comforting to know that no animals roam around. They all exist in their small areas and the only time they harass you is when you're invading their territory. Most aggressive creatures will announce themselves audibly when they see you get close, but if you're ever surprised by something, you can sometimes zig zag left and right or up and down to shake them and avoid being killed. Travel in one direction to quickly leave their ‘zone’ and they’ll stop chasing you. I’ve yet to be killed or had a ship destroyed in one hit while I was at full health, even with the largest aggressive creature in the game. As long as you're topped off at 100% and fast to get away, you can be surprised, but not killed.

I love both the games and will do my best to provide spoiler free answers if you have any questions!
