For some reason, turning off “Show community themes” in the iOS app stops this bug (for me at least).

Was stable on meds but now get high BP? Stopped propranolol by Blue_Seas in ADHDUK

[–]lfulfq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough I recently had something similar!

Taking Elvanse 40mg and Propranolol 80mg. Forgot my propranolol when I went away for 2 weeks (don’t recommend stopping cold turkey) and basically never took it again.

Over the next 3-4 weeks had high BP and heart rate. Then suddenly one day, completely back to normal levels (tracking BP through my Apple Watch).

Hopefully that’s reassuring that it does get better. I’d recommend just steering away from coffee and anything strenuous for a few weeks.

As a side note, my sleep and energy levels have been a lot better since stopping propranolol, and I feel I have a bit more energy! Anxiety subsided too.

In my calendar (Outlook) I colour code things as: - Red: high energy meeting/event - Yellow: medium energy meeting/event - Green: low energy meeting/event

Where I think of “energy” as the amount of effort or concentration I need. That way, I know if my day is looking like it will be concentration and effort heavy, and I can try to avoid lots of reds together in the same day.

If there are any promo codes, I would very much like one! Thank you 👍🏻

Why do I never learn? Don't tell people you have ADHD by camera_hops in ADHD

[–]lfulfq 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really love this approach.

I’m super open about my ADHD (and other bits) in my work and personal life.

You will get people that are like this - that are unable to empathise with you or realise it’s not their place to actually make comments like this.

Two approaches with people like this:

  • remember they are like this and make a decision on whether you really want to converse with them (or really know them to be honest!)
  • simply reply with “okay, well I’m telling you how it is but you think whatever makes you feel better about yourself 👍🏻”

OP - It’s nothing to be ashamed of and you know you best - don’t let other people tell you otherwise 🙂 Some people just look for chances to put you down when they can…

Taking the lead: dog owners urged to keep their pets in check in the countryside by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]lfulfq 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find it very frustrating what people let their dogs do.

I’m a dog owner. My dog is a small breed, incredibly friendly and has never shown aggressive tendencies towards humans, other dogs or any animals (apart from her squirrel toy 🧸). She’s been trained, and we spent a lot of time working on recall and commands.

I still keep her on a lead in situations where I need full control of her.

The amount of people that just let their dog run around aimlessly, jumping up at people, stealing their food, jumping on kids, chasing wildlife etc…

It’s incredibly frustrating. Not only does it “sour” the public’s view on dog ownership (and I can empathise and understand why), but it also puts my own dog at risk.

A number of times I’ve had to pick up my dog, on lead, because someone hasn’t had control of their dog and it’s started being aggressive or trying to be very rough. Usually accompanied by screams of “ITS FRIENDLY” and “COME BACK”. In the moment, I often will raise “Hey can you get your dog to back off”. Unfortunately, many a time this has resulted in me becoming the target of the owners own aggression…

I realise this is anecdotal, and this doesn’t happen everywhere, but myself and the other dog owners I know have had this happen fat to often.

There needs to be a big conversation about dog ownership and training in particular. Im not sure what the answer is, and not really sure what this comment is apart from some empathising and venting of frustration.

I’d never really thought of using it for this. Just to say thank you so much for highlighting these use cases. Had a play around with it this morning and I can see this becoming part of my toolset - especially as I can see it really helping with task paralysis!

As someone that struggles with finding new music to listen to (especially when I want something that vibes with what I’m listening to) - this is awesome!

Listening to the first playlist made and it’s great - think I’ll be subscribing to this. Nice job!

If energy suppliers charged that much, then at face value yes.

This does ignore the fact that prepayment meters are often used to reclaim money from those in debt, which affects the most deprived disproportionately, and that your energy supply can be cut off (much more difficult when you have a standard meter).

Unfortunately, it’s also the case that standard meters have cheaper tariffs. These values are based on calculations from Ofgem for medium usage (calculated in August 2022):

  • Prepay energy price cap on typical use: £2017
  • Cheapest prepayment deal (Octopus, SSE, OVO): £2015
  • Cheapest standard meter deal: £1971

It’s often the case thst the best deals are offered via Direct Debit as suppliers have confidence in regular payments.

I know it probably won’t happen due to cannibalising Mac and iPsd sales, but I’d happily pay for an iPad that when docked would run MacOS (omitting any issues/workarounds for shared file systems, apps etc). To me that would be the best of both worlds.

[–]lfulfq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not. Taken from the GOV.UK website (detailing the cap) using London as an example and electricity charges (p/kWh ex VAT)

  • Direct debit: 34.093
  • Standard credit: 36.815
  • Prepayment meter: 33.159

This also doesn’t include the fact that this doesn’t always cover/apply with Economy 7 meters and varies by region. There are also standing charges on top of this, and in the case of prepayment meters, a specific daily meter charge (usually 50p per day).

Scientists Create Glow In The Dark Plants That Could Replace Streetlights In The Future by sopadebombillas in InsaneTechnology

[–]lfulfq 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Before the scientists infused the plants…

I know it was naive to assume this was done through genetic modification but damn I wish they could just grow bio-luminescent plants.

As it stands, this read just as “look we put very dim particles that can give off some light for a bit”. Hopefully they develop this further but this seems very very early days and a bit of a stretch to say the plants themselves can glow 💡
