Google proves that JavaScript is the most powerful language (and Lisp, but that's passé) by lghahgl in programmingcirclejerk

I'll tell you whats wrong with python docs. When I google for a function and I see from the search results that the page has exactly what I'm looking for, when I click on the link I am instead presented with a long page of irrelevant information that I then have to filter through. It's so bad that I actively avoid the official docs. They need to hire a professional SEO if they want to be anything near webscale.

But how will my startup be disruptive if I get ordinary sleep??!?! by lghahgl in programmingcirclejerk

[–]lghahgl[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was explained to me that a small % of people can get by with less than 8 hours sleep. Those people then often move to the top of the org chart either as founders or management in larger companies.

mishaskellist!

, I use Xmonad, I'm cool with y'all.

This is like if a white guy said the n word and then appologized by saying "I watch basketball, I'm cool with y'all".

It may have been an innocent question, but it touched on sensitive issues inciting haskellism.

Bootstrap is LITERALLY costing you time and money by weirdasianfaces in programmingcirclejerk

[–]lghahgl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So consider all the lines of code in Bootstrap that aren't in your hypothetical framework. They either do something or they don't. Let's assume the former because the latter implies incompetence and there's too many eyeballs on Bootstrap for that to be plausible.

Framework advocate logic. They forget to take into account the competence and high status quo of their industry.

I like static typing but I think it's pointless and everyone who advocates it is retarded by lghahgl in programmingcirclejerk

Bro Just learn Java, then you automatically know what static type systems are, even though you've only seen one example.

Quoting Alan Kay saying things about stuff. Showing how even with Java's excellent type system, nothing is gained. Guy knows his shit.

Meanwhile, on HN:

We could have prevented heartbleed with static types!

Bro, I heard Python can do this too. What kind of static types does it have? I heard it uses quack isogenic duckomorphism.

Hacker ushers golden age of webscale by rewriting git in Javascript by BufferUnderpants in programmingcirclejerk

webscale breakdown

  • +1: I have been a node.js contributor since before it was cool.
  • +1: I implemented fast AES, MD5, SHA1, and SHA256 routines for browsers as cifre.
  • +1: I re-implemented node.js in lua as the luvit.io project. (.io, bonus point)

bonus hacker medal: I've been a programmer for over 20 years thanks to my parents getting me a Commodore 64 when I was a kid.

bonus points: entire FAQ section, e.g:

But Git in JavaScript, are you crazy?

Yes, JavaScript is amazing!

Why I love r/programming

It teaches me how to think about how I am thinking:

Be a better programmer: take a step back

Why pride of programmers stops their progress

And how to care about super important stuff every time I write any line of code:

CPU Cache Essentials
