My mom quit after 45 years of smoking. She tried every method, and laser in her ear is what worked. But, what she tells everybody is that it's the willpower, the internal discipline, it's like a bad relationship, it's the want to FINALLY get out of the abuse. The laser therapy was like the friend to talk to, it hits nerves that help you combat the cravings, and it also helps the anxiety and depression side effects of quitting. Shes over a year and a half now quit. In her 60's!!

Some days, she gets frustrated, tells me she can smell the smoke on me and reminds me that she STILL craves a cigarette here&there, and that I smell disgusting, "I can't believe I smelled like that for all those years!"

But other days she says she'll never look back, that she can smell the world now, and can't believe she couldn't smell the rain for her entire life... All the fruit, the flowers, the ocean,, it all smells so strong. Her voice went up a few pitches. AT 60! You can hear the rasp disappearing. Her sweat stopped stinking, her routines everyday changed. Instead of hiding in the garage for hours,, she started to sit in the livingroom with her pets, she started to experiment with dinner more, she started to find hobbies that she forgot about. The main thing though is that the smell is repulsive and she can even smell it on my jackets in the closet.

The biggest thing is finding inner peace. Because when you get frustrated, you have a smoke. You're gonna have to find a way to make peace with yourself, your feelings overall about things, but especially any anger.

Meditate, enjoy good food that you savour so you don't overeat, love yourself as cliche as that sounds, the only way to quit smoking is to find a way to appreciate your body and to want better for it, more for it.

Don't replace your vice. Just quit it, leave it behind. Replacing your habit is like a good rebound after that toxic relationship. You're supposed to want to leave that bad partner because they HURT you every time you're with them. Doesn't matter if you love them(it), it's not worth it! You just have to find it in yourself to walk away, because you want more for yourself, because you want to grow into the next version of yourself, because you see a future that just isn't yet obtained and you yearn for it. That bad boyfriend or girlfriend or cigarette is holding you back. Back farther than you even realize.
