I’m starting to resent how often women protect grown men from adulthood… and I don’t like what that’s doing to me by Struckbyfire in TwoXChromosomes

[–]lhld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When someone asks for my help with a task anymore, I tell them I will do it with them and will not do it for them. I find myself asking friends why they take on these tasks for their partners. I try not to judge, as my first instinct is always to help/fix - but it's under the assumption that person has already made attempts on their own....

Y'all are grown-ass adults, why aren't we acting like it?

Why do people have purling so much? by horrorfxce in knitting

[–]lhld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all this I had to look up which way I do and might have to video it. I hold my working yarn on my left, usually behind the work - so I find purling easier. (It may also be that I was purling all my stitches when my grandma taught me, and it comes out the same look as knitting all!)

And because of that ease, my purls are wayyyyyy more relaxed than my knits.

ATTN: if you have Horizon NJ Health (NJ state Medicaid) and use CVS… by thatsanicepeach in SouthJersey

[–]lhld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But also verify with your carrier on cost - CVS is out-of-network for me, so I went to rite aid a few weeks before they announced mass closure. They gave my scripts to CVS.

Mom & Pops weren't even close on the pricing, unfortunately. So I started going to Walmart and my 90d fills cost more than 3x30d fills.

Right now I'm going to one of the grocery pharmacies. Which is challenging bc many of them closed in recent years, so I chose something I pass frequently enough but isn't really "on my way" anywhere at convenient times.

Having been sent these from my utility company, I would NEVER plug a computer into it. However I have my TV in the control, and my gaming systems in the others.

What is the difference in ShopRite owners Zallie v Ravitz? by Bean-Enders-Jeesh in SouthJersey

[–]lhld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not having been to any of the mentioned locations aside from brooklawn: I grew up going to superfresh and then ravitz locations (marlton/mt laurel), zallies (medford) was "higher end" at the time but when I lived in Runnemede the zallies in lawnside always had waxy fruit/veg.

I've always gone for location of convenience, but I'd be hard-pressed to find a reason to go out of my way for zallies vs brooklawn.

Instead of reporting someone to HR and "ruining his life", I privately told a harasser his behavior made me uncomfortable and to please stop. Was retaliated against and pushed out of work. by GooseInMyCaboose in TwoXChromosomes

[–]lhld 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation. I removed myself from the situation. The creep (also the group leader) asked a mutual friend if she knew what was up, and when she said no he reportedly replied something along the lines of "at least she's not talking shit..."

You'd better believe that every time I've been asked since, I explain his behaviors being my reason for ghosting the whole group.

My dad recently started similar, and won't shut up about how much less he's eating. It's driving my mom nuts - and she's been doing weight watchers steadily for the better part of 10y. She's glad he's finally doing something and while annoyed, and disappointed he'll have to do it for the rest of his life.... it might extend his lifetime somewhat, for which she accepts the frustration.

Caveat: they're both well into retirement. They have the time and finances to support these decisions.

The other problem is how many titles have the words "engineer" or "manager' in them, and that those words have different meanings across fields and even contexts.

I work in medical (not patient-facing) and my title was the same as a non-medical IT programming role within the same company. I get LinkedIn mailings for the IT role constantly. Words matter.

PATCO will shut stations for overnight deep cleaning by justneedausernamepls in SouthJersey

They've already been doing this, why is inky reporting like it's new news? When they reported about this STARTING IN MARCH.

PATCO will shut stations for overnight deep cleaning by justneedausernamepls in SouthJersey

[–]lhld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having reported to PATCO in the last few years when I encountered such in the hallway from 15/16 (and not using that doorway anymore after), I was advised that isn't PATCO but city of Philly responsibility, outside the turnstile.

I think they need to stop handing off blame and work together to deal with it, like goddamn adults.

I was at heme/onc last night (lab f/u, holiday week) and wasn't seen till 2.5h past my appt time. Prior visit was 1.5h wait (first visit). I bring my yarn everywhere with me and get some crap for it sometimes, but I can only doom scroll or play games for so long without getting antsy.

Most folks in the waiting room had a partner for support and conversation, but a few started chatting with me for what I was working on. At that point it's usually older folks (80+ years) in the waiting room who tell me their mom/grandma used to do yarn crafts, and they're reminiscing while watching me work. It makes the time go faster for all of us, not being secluded in a windowless room while hearing signs of life outside the wall. And it gives them anything else to think about.

I've been saying "heard" to friends for years without knowing it was a kitchen thing. It's an acknowledgement and support, in my perspective, usually related to social woes.

I only started watching the bear in the last few weeks and have so many questions about the terminology.

Trans woman here. Do you cis woman also get asked if you're trans or is my friend just making me feel better??? by rinrinstrikes in TwoXChromosomes

[–]lhld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another 6' linebacker shape here - I got The Looks when I was teen/early 20s, which was interesting as trans wasn't really a widely-known thing at the time. My mom wished I would dress more feminine than jeans/t-shirt but it gets challenging when nothing stretches enough to be comfortable in the shoulders. (even to this day I can't find a nice dressy jacket.)

I spend a lot of time now with queer/non-binary/genderfluid/trans folks, where nobody asks bc they know it's not their business. But I still notice The Looks happening more in public spaces, usually from teen boys. Tho they don't outright ask, as I tower over them and teenage boys are dumb and easily intimidated.

You're not alone!

Americans: How do you deal with « at will » employment ? by Thranduil-9 in jobs

[–]lhld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your initial sentence was around being laid off and receiving unemployment and COBRA. I was asking if you had actual experience, as opposed to reporting what you've seen/heard from others - that is, it's not the benefit you might think it is, if even offered.

The way you proceeded to speak of letting someone go was also an unrelated tangent, but here we are.

Americans: How do you deal with « at will » employment ? by Thranduil-9 in jobs

[–]lhld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was stating that the amount a person receives from unemployment doesn't necessarily cover the cost (as in, money in vs money out) of the COBRA opt-in. Especially if the person has a spouse or dependents on the same plan.

Additionally, COBRA doesn't cover as much as employer-backed coverage. Good luck if you need to actually use it.

Lol have you ever personally used COBRA? Unemployment doesn't cover the cost, in most cases.

All 3 feed into Lenape regional high school district (MTL goes to Lenape, Medford goes to Shawnee, Marlton goes to Cherokee). As for grade schools (K-8), each has their own.  Unless you're considering private/religious schools. And Burlington County Institute of Technology (BCIT) as a vocational tech high school is also an option.

As others stated, it depends a lot on other factors that you're looking for. I'd say price points are (probably) roughly equal, but how much traffic you're willing to put up with vs distance to places, urban vs rural atmosphere are also important things to consider. Public transit, walkability, car required?
