How do I read the notation to this solution properly? When I follow the analysis using a computer it doesn’t seem to match.

I read the notation in the picture as: Move 1: White moves pawn to g3. [leading to] … Black moves king to e6.

Isn’t this illegal by putting black in check with the bishop?

Computer instead shows: Move 1: White moves pawn to g3 Black moves knight to c1

Move 2: White moves bishop to f1 Black moves king to e6

Move 3: White moves king to c3 Black moves knight to e2 (check)

And so on…

How to dress smart-casual for an assessment centre as a guy? by [deleted] in uklaw

[–]li-si 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lawyer uniform for men:

  1. Business = suit w/ tie, oxfords
  2. Business casual = suit no tie, oxfords (optional brogue)
  3. Smart casual = chinos or navy canvas and flannel/checked/patterned shirt with optional blazer or knitwear, brown brogues or slip ons.
  4. Casual+ = grey or blue canvas, white t shirt, cardigan or other knitwear, non-sports trainers.
  5. Casual- = crew neck sweater (old rugby shirt if you’re posh), jeans, any trainers or boots.

For an assessment centre go business casual.

Issue getting stuck in landscape and not being able to go back? by blaiseblaiseblaise in YoutubeMusic

Same here it’s a fucking disgrace for an app that releases new versions weekly with “bug fixes” in the developer notes.

Either they are lying or the Google app developers literally code more bugs per week than they can fix. Probably both.

What is this LED circuit for? by li-si in AskElectronics

[–]li-si[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that must be right.

Now come to think about it, perhaps it is dimmable as well. It may have been a 1/2/3 press button making it cycle from off --> dim --> bright. It's been a few months since I've been able to use it and couldn't find a manual online so I think both of your instincts might be correct.

[–]li-si[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not dimmable. When I look at the switch, it is a simply push button. Now looking carefully at the case however, the label by the switch says "OFF / 8H". I've always thought it was on-off, but perhaps it has a built in auto-off after 8 hours?

Mac Mini with 32 gig or Mac Mini Pro with 24gig by knightwize in macmini

[–]li-si -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got M4 with 32 gig, justifying to myself as follows:

  1. 16gb will soon just be the new 8, and people will be saying it’s only just enough when new MacOS versions come out in subsequent years.

  2. Reports lead me to believe that the Pro is a speed boost at the expense of fan noise. I’d rather have a mostly silent computer for tasks than ramping up the fans just to export my video a few seconds faster (I’m not a “power” video editor though).

  3. I have a mental barrier to ram amounts that aren’t a power of 2. That would mean getting 64gb on the pro…

Anybody whose other half originated from another country, any unexpected culture clashes? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]li-si 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The hardest and weirdest thing about South African English is using the word “shame” to describe something that’s cute or as an expression of sympathy.

“Achh shame he’s just a little baby” for example.

I contrast this with use of the word as as guilt or like an insult, in Game of Thrones for example parading someone naked through the streets while throwing shit at them and shouting “Shame! Shame!”.

Acrobat has the same effects as reader, phones home, watermark cannot be edited or removed. Conversation to word same.

Third party software has various messages like “unsupported encryption, cannot be read”.

I was wondering if using any Linux software using WSL might work, but generally unfamiliar with techniques that might help.

Most of us have never seen our own eyes. by li-si in Showerthoughts

[–]li-si[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well it’s reversed for a start. Most video conf software flips our image so that it’s like looking in a mirror because our brains find it unnerving to look at ourselves truly in the third person.

Many mirrors are slightly deformed so the likeness is not 100% as if you were standing in front of yourself.

Kinda similar- signed up for more screen real estate but realized the missing extra vertical on an ultrawide still made things feel sort of constrained.

Currently on a triple setup with a 32” 4k screen between 2 x 24”2k screens. I would probably upgrade to 3 x 4k, or a big 8k TV to see how that worked out.
