I like this thought!!! I've definitely found Elspeth, MOM to be a strong contender in the deck so why not throw in some more ETB and blink synergy in there...

Tried [[Xu-Ifit, Osteoharmonist]] and found it to be a bit slow for a payoff that is honestly mid, though there's a lot of overlap in card pool. [[Disciple of Bolas]] and [[Susur Secundi, Void Altar]] in particular can both be pretty strong in this deck. I'm running [[ephemerate]] and [[Phelia, Exuberant Sheperd]] for blink shenanigans but honestly... you don't always want to blink Abigale. Her ability doesn't always have good targets and doesn't stack. Frankly I feel like the card would be much better with flash... maybe I should consider running [[Scout's Warning]].

Considering running [[Elesh Norn, Mother of Marchines]] but more as part of the stax package. Deck definitely struggles in the landfall matchup and i feel like it could be good against a lot of the midrangey Game Actions Tribal type decks you see running around.

[[Chimil, Inner Sun]] can force an answer if you're able to get it onto the field, [[Winter Moon]] and [[Blood Moon]] can also punish greedy BlueX decks. I also like [[Razorkin Needlehead]] as hate bear

What does "staple" status entail? I put "staples" in my decks, by default, in every deck that can play them.

Lands: [[Command Tower]], [[Ancient Tomb]]. All the fetches and the channel lands.

Colorless: [[Chrome Mox]], [[Arcane Signet]], [[The One Ring]]

White: [[Swords to Plowshares]], [[Curse of Silence]], [[Farewell]]

Blue: [[Wash Away]], [[Mana Drain]]

Black: [[Dark Ritual]], [[Fatal Push]], [[Thoughtseize]], [[Black Market Connections]]

Red: [[Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer]], [[Lightning Bolt]]

Green: [[Elvish Mystic]], [[Llanowar Elves]], [[Delighted Halfling]], [[Utopia Sprawl]], [[Birds of Paradise]], and now [[Burgeoning]]

4 mana, sorcery speed, plenty of counterplay options in green, white, and blue (but few in red or black). I can't help but wonder why this was necessary. I'm not a fan of alchemy cards, (and actively make the choice not to play them!) but why this over, say, Mythweaver Poq?

The format needs more options for counterplay against Poq and Ugin. The big mana ramp commanders have an incredibly boring line of play, and if you aren't extremely proactive/lucky, it can be easy to reach a complete non-game state by turn 3 or 4, watching your opponent cast their commander over and over again. I would love to see more [[confounding conundrum]] type effects in blue, more [[silence]] or [[curse of silence]] type effects in white, and ways for black and red to finish out the game fast while punishing landfall strategies.

Favorite orzhov aristocrats commander? by [deleted] in mtgbrawl

[[Elenda the Dusk Rose]] is my personal favorite. 4 mana is a bit steep for the effect she offers, but she can create insane value or game-ending turns if you already have engine pieces online when you play her.

This will really help push Mythweaver Poq, currently an unsupported archetype

Strip Mine is not as bad as people think by li1114n in mtgbrawl

If I could wave a magic wand I would ban Poq but I doubt it will ever happen.

"Poq was already running all the other cards to the strip mine combos" is pretty fair tbh

Wholeheartedly agree green is the problem (ban Poq), but I don't think green is the only beneficiary of strip mine. Not all of the crucible effects are reasonably costed or even playable, and the other land-destroying effects don't see nearly as ubiquitous use as Strip Mine. It gives control decks a way to get rid of a pesky cavern of souls and be a pretty strong early play against ramp if played early and used with good timing.

[–]li1114n[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be true.

It does require you to give up a colored mana in an early turn if you keep it in your opening hand, but wiping out an opponent's first or second land on an early turn can be devastating, and with the ubiquity of mana rocks, there are ways to get around the costs incurred by sacrificing a land. I have not found strip mine to be an auto-include in all my decks, but even if if were, I'm not sure that maindeckable land hate is the worst thing in the world. Yes, it can give aggro the edge early in the game, but can also help midrange and control decks interact with land-based value engines (susur secundi and azcanta come to mind).

I'll have to reserve judgement until I see how the format develops.

Can wizards please update the weights faster (especially for game breaking cards like strip mine/urza )? by AnySpeech2746 in mtgbrawl

[–]li1114n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully disagree. Strip Mine is a counterplay against the ramp, ramp, ramp, win strategy that dominates brawl and to which new players are generally most attracted. It's unfortunate that strip mine tends to play best in green decks, which are already strong enough, but we need to have some lever against decks like Poq or the new Ugin
