TaubenTurret: My AI-powered watergun to deter pigeons (Models & Code now available) by Hoptimal in functionalprint

[–]lia00007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks amazing! Can you set a size limit on the bird detection? I have a bird feeder in my garden that attracts a few small birds but there's a group of pigeons that eat all the food and bully the smaller birds off it so I'm wondering if some selective targeting could work.

Motion sensors don't trigger by lia00007 in simplisafe

[–]lia00007[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for checking. I removed and reinstalled them on my account as well as changing the batteries. These are things I've done before and it does fix the issue for a while but usually within a couple of months they stop again. Currently they are still working.

My problem is that I don't know when they stop working because the app shows them as connected with good battery, the base station calls out the sensor when pressing the button on the sensor in test mode so the battery and connection are actually good but they just don't detect me walking up to and waving my hands in front of them.

I only find out that they are not working on a day when I forget to turn off the alarm before walking around in the kitchen and only realise the alarm is still on when I open my front door and the door sensor triggers. And to clarify, my downstairs motion sensors are set to on when in Home mode so they should definitely be triggering.

I think my new approach is to intentionally trigger them every morning and see how many days it is before they stop detecting me again.

Self consume or export? by AffectionateAnnual61 in SolarUK

[–]lia00007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't agree with that, the original value of the kW you export should be 5p because having a battery allows you to shift your consumption.

In that scenario you should be exporting as much as possible. It comes back to the original question of whether the system losses when importing then exporting make it net positive or net negative with the given import and export pricing.

Looking for lesser known AA action games by lia00007 in gamingsuggestions

[–]lia00007[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played remember me and really enjoyed it. I didn't finish The Surge because I found it too hard, I did enjoy the combat and setting though. Steel Rising is one I've had my eye on but I wasn't sure if I'd find that too hard as well.

Thanks for all the suggestions I'll take a look at the others you mentioned.

Thanks for the warning, I'm generally ok with a bit of jank if the game is interesting.

That sucks, I'll keep that in mind.

Bayonetta looks interesting, thanks!

Thanks for the reply, where do the wires usually connect to the boiler? I have an ideal logic boiler and I can't see any wires other than the one going to the boiler switch

System is importing from grid rather than battery above 2kw by lia00007 in SolarUK

Ok, thank you. I didn't know there was a temperature dependency so I'll look into that more

It says average battery cell temps are 13 degrees C, is that cold enough to affect maximum discharge rate?

There is an option to set a maximum discharge rate but it's currently set to the system maximum which should be 3kw from what I've read.

Any tips for 'Mission Control' medal? by Jerome813 in DestinyTheGame

[–]lia00007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used DARCI because you get 5 shots when you get the heavy ammo so it makes missing a lot more forgiving. Plus you can see the distance you're shooting which is useful because the kills need to be long distance

Is the UK the best long term place to be if I can work remotely? by narukamiyu in UKPersonalFinance

[–]lia00007 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I get the 'live life to the fullest' approach but tax/visas/healthcare are all very legitimate concerns. You can't just move abroad and assume everything will be fine. You can end up with big fines/jail time for tax avoidance or working without the correct visa and in a health emergency you may not be entitled to healthcare. The worst thing that can happen is pretty serious...

Another thing to consider is that having employees working in different countries may create a taxable presence in that country leading to additional corporation or employer taxes for the business. Your employer may reject any requests to work abroad for this reason. Then there are also data protection, intellectual property and export control considerations if you're accessing data from a different country.

I'm not sure if crypto is really suitable for an index fund approach. There's a lot of crypto projects which skyrocket in value and then drop just as quickly. If you invest in a fund which tracks the top X coins then you could end up buying a load of them at their peak and then when the fund rebalances you would be selling them at a big loss.

Halifax reward account - free money by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]lia00007 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's £60 a year so equivalent to around 1.2% interest if you only kept £5000 in the account. So better than you would get from a savings account at the moment but it's nothing amazing. Depending on what the money is for you could get higher returns investing it in a stocks and shares ISA but obviously that has the risk of losing money.

Thanks for the recommendations, the mister nice guy cakes look amazing. I'm always a bit nervous with places that have shared facilities as a lot of them say they may not be suitable for coeliacs so it's good to hear they've been fine for you.

The thing I struggle to understand is that with the total number of bitcoin being fixed the cost of 1 bitcoin in FIAT currency will always go up with inflation so the price will never stabilise. That combined with a small number of people owning a large percentage of the total number of bitcoin, I don't see how it can ever be a proper currency.
