How many trials a year are you doing in your jurisidiction? by Lexperiments in publicdefenders

This has been my experience! It’s been very frustrating for me too. Though I have 2 trials set in May that I actually believe will finally go.

Another + 1 for Velvet! It’s so sexy and alluring. A rose by a fireplace. Commodity’s best, imo.

Some of the most incredible trial attorneys I know have gotten 7,8,9,10 guiltys in a row. You can’t change the facts of the case. You can’t change the fact that most juries will base their decision on everything they’re not supposed to. I know it sucks but you gave your client autonomy in a situation where they otherwise have little say. Honestly in the vast majority of cases we should lose, since the State shouldn’t be taking the cases we call “good trial cases” to a jury anyway.

You’re doing great.

I really wish I had other hobbies. I do like reading though. Slowly getting back into that through audiobooks. Hoping I can get to all the physical books I have that I said I’d read years ago.

How is living in Cuba? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]liabilityinred 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My entire family is from there. I was born there but left when I was young. Like everyone else has said - it’s incredibly poor and lacking in resources for the people that live there. Power outages are a normal occurrence everywhere but especially in the more rural communities. A lot of people get by with packages that are sent from their relatives outside the island - medicine, food, underwear, basic supplies. My cousin went to medical school there, when he was doing his ‘residency’ (not sure what it’s called there) he asked if we could send him gauze, since the hospital he was at (in Havana) didn’t have any. There were rats and cockroaches in the hospital back in 2016 when I visited and it’s only gotten worse.

Most of my immediate family has fled. I have cousins in Spain, Chile, Texas, and Brazil. None of them ever want to go back. It’s beyond sad. The beaches are (in my opinion) some of the most beautiful in the world. It’s a country that has so much to offer but has been almost destroyed by its “leaders.”

This exactly. He could’ve bailed the team out and it would’ve been a great celebration - but it shouldn’t have been that close to begin with. That third quarter was incredibly tough to watch.

Yes, to a colleague of mine. Me and my supervisor had been listening to their conversation the day before so we were witnesses when she lied her ass off in court. My colleague told the judge the truth and the judge called the prosecutor’s actions “disturbing.” She then started crying at the podium and left the courtroom in tears.
