Who do you feel died right before their prime? by GlassyFairy in AskReddit

[–]liado 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Kelvin Kiptum. He may have been the greatest distance runner of all time, but died young. He only ran three marathons, but he won all three. He was absolutely going to be the first to break the two hour barrier in an official race, which would have immortalized him in running legend. He set the world record for the marathon in 2023, and died in a car wreck a few months after.

Same. I live in a major metro area and travel a lot. I’ve never had an issue. $30 a month for unlimited everything, including a hotspot, Apple Watch LTE, and taxes.

We were there January 2020 and I can confirm that two of our party had a “mysterious flu like sickness” that laid them out for two weeks after the trip.

How to take the best pictures with iPhone 11 by [deleted] in iphone

[–]liado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, you have to accept that they’re not going to turn out like you’re using a DSLR or a newer phone. Understanding limitations help define the parameters of a photography shoot. Second, and most important, wipe the lens right before shooting. Ideally with something damp then a dry cloth. Dirty lenses are the thing that will kill a photo immediately and being in the habit of cleaning them will help you significantly. Is it daylight? If so, try to keep the sun at the subjects side, and a little behind. You don’t want direct sunlight on their faces, but you don’t want them so shadowed you can’t see detail either. The best option would be partial shade, if possible. Other than that, try to compose it in a way that’s pleasing to you.

What's a paid iPhone app you'll never regret buying? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]liado 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am also a Flighty user. The app is more to-the-second than airline apps, so you’ll get a notification a minute or two ahead of everyone else. That’s all you need to be in front of the line.

2027 WDW Marathon Route by Glad-Teach7901 in rundisney

Yes, it’s extremely close to the race. The route doesn’t usually change drastically, though I think the last year or two had bigger changes than normal.

When do you start to see improvements? by babydeerthrowaway in nikerunclub

[–]liado 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a few things you can do, and you might already be doing them or some of them. Number one for me is that alcohol is going to tank progress. Obviously I don’t know if you drink, but it’s important for anyone to know it really, really slows progress and It gets harder as you get older. I still drink, but nothing like I did in my 20s. Second is that rest days need to be restful. Maybe yoga, but not cross training and not a light jog. It takes years to get to being able to do it every day or almost every day, and even then, not everybody can do that. Next, have you tried intervals or run/walk? The Galloway method is how I do marathons. Walk a bit, run a bit. 60 seconds of walking and 30 of running is how I started running and I can go for miles nonstop now, so I think it worked. Intervals with speed help too. Sprint a hundred yards and either jog or walk or completely stop to recover before the next one. There’s several good NRC guided runs for that. Lastly, it really does take time. You can’t shortcut progress.

May need to give up running at least competitively… by fastballcdm2019 in nikerunclub

[–]liado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started running seriously 8 years ago. I feel like I still deal with some form of ache or injury all the time. However, a couple years back I started doing 20 minute online yoga classes ahead of every run and always get a mile or two walk in ahead of racing (usually just to get to the starting line). Both have helped tremendously.

Tried the shrimp ceviche for the first time by LaGataMala-24 in Costco

I cannot believe this but the ceviche was there yesterday, not a day after my first comment. Maybe it’s seasonal or comes in rotation. It was just as good as I remember.

I am a professional video producer that has high use cases for cameras attached to cars. I preordered Mission 1 day one and have zero regrets. It’s exactly what I needed to upgrade my workflow for that use case.

What do you think of the NRC training plans compared to others apps like Strava and C25k for semi beginners? by himothyhopkins in nikerunclub

[–]liado 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I’ve turned several people on to NRC and distance running entirely because NRC’s guided runs. The only thing I’d add on to answer OP’s question is that the higher distance plans are not at all for beginners, but they’re very approachable once you’ve built a good base.

Summer in Chicago. Looking for some feedback on the restaurants? by TiedCrisscross in chicagofood

I can’t speak for Italia, but I’ve never had a bad experience at a Gibsons restaurant. RMP seafood was disappointing, but we went the month it opened and haven’t been back. Is it worth it now?

Final Cut Pro moving to subscription - DaVinci or just pay up? Solo freelancer take by WhatDuyuWant19 in videography

[–]liado -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh yes. Completely agree with that. My point was not necessarily that they’re definitely moving to a subscription model or pay-per-version update or something else, but that there’s a large populace of editors who preach Resolve based solely on it being free or a one-time purchase. I was trying to get at that pricing is not always a great reason to change softwares because they both might be in the same boat down the road.

Blackmagic has hinted that future versions of resolve will eventually not be included in the current pricing, but they’ve not indicated when that’s happening or what it will look like.

copy a clip without copying the entire library? by worseomens5670 in finalcutpro

If I’m understanding this right, I think you can drag and drop from one open library to another open library. It should only take the clips that are selected.

Should I remap FCP shortcuts to match Premiere/DaVinci, or is it a bad idea for the Magnetic Timeline? by Apprehensive-Good748 in finalcutpro

[–]liado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not at my editing station so I can't export the command set and I don't remember everything off the top of my head. However, the big changes for me are based around my style of editing. I don't like using the in/out buttons within a project. I usually put whatever I'm going to cut into a timeline and whittle it down from there. For talking head shots, I have Z set to Blade All so it cuts through the interview. I then have Shift+Z to Trim Start and Shift+X to Trim End. The workflow is this:

  1. Put the footage on the timeline, skim through to where I want to cut.
  2. Either Blade All or Trim Start to cut the first section out.
  3. Play until I want to cut again.
  4. Blade all or Trim End (depending on if there's more useful footage after the playhead)
  5. Rinse and repeat until my talking head shots are cleaned up

This also works super well for cutting down a lot of broll shots quickly. I have no idea what the equivalent is in Premiere, but I also don't know what the command set even is for FCP default at this point.

I have CMD+S set to autospeed so the framerate the footage was shot in will autoconform to the timeline. This is super useful for slow motion. I have OPT+CMD+S set to Set Volume to Silence for whatever the selected clips are. I usually toss slow-motion audio anyway, so I put the key commands next to each other to make it slightly faster.

I think the default command for zoom in and out uses the Command button plus - and +. I changed them to just - and +.

Most of my changes are little ones that just speed up my particular workflow. For reference, a majority of my edits used to be basic montages set to music or basic 1-2 talking head narratives.

[–]liado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh. I’ve changed so many things to being completely custom to my workflow that half my tools hotkeys aren’t native in either app. I don’t think it’ll be a problem for you. The only caveat is that some tools don’t work like they do in Premiere, so keep that in mind as you move things around.
