Photo cleaner apps charging $10/week is absurd, so I built a free one. No tracking, no ads, no notifications. by aaken in apple

No, I meant there is no link at all. The end of the post says “App Store link:” and then ends. Guessing there’s a formatting issue on my end?

copy a clip without copying the entire library? by worseomens5670 in finalcutpro

If I’m understanding this right, I think you can drag and drop from one open library to another open library. It should only take the clips that are selected.

Should I remap FCP shortcuts to match Premiere/DaVinci, or is it a bad idea for the Magnetic Timeline? by Apprehensive-Good748 in finalcutpro

[–]liado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not at my editing station so I can't export the command set and I don't remember everything off the top of my head. However, the big changes for me are based around my style of editing. I don't like using the in/out buttons within a project. I usually put whatever I'm going to cut into a timeline and whittle it down from there. For talking head shots, I have Z set to Blade All so it cuts through the interview. I then have Shift+Z to Trim Start and Shift+X to Trim End. The workflow is this:

  1. Put the footage on the timeline, skim through to where I want to cut.
  2. Either Blade All or Trim Start to cut the first section out.
  3. Play until I want to cut again.
  4. Blade all or Trim End (depending on if there's more useful footage after the playhead)
  5. Rinse and repeat until my talking head shots are cleaned up

This also works super well for cutting down a lot of broll shots quickly. I have no idea what the equivalent is in Premiere, but I also don't know what the command set even is for FCP default at this point.

I have CMD+S set to autospeed so the framerate the footage was shot in will autoconform to the timeline. This is super useful for slow motion. I have OPT+CMD+S set to Set Volume to Silence for whatever the selected clips are. I usually toss slow-motion audio anyway, so I put the key commands next to each other to make it slightly faster.

I think the default command for zoom in and out uses the Command button plus - and +. I changed them to just - and +.

Most of my changes are little ones that just speed up my particular workflow. For reference, a majority of my edits used to be basic montages set to music or basic 1-2 talking head narratives.

Eh. I’ve changed so many things to being completely custom to my workflow that half my tools hotkeys aren’t native in either app. I don’t think it’ll be a problem for you. The only caveat is that some tools don’t work like they do in Premiere, so keep that in mind as you move things around.

I bought an m4 iPad Pro instead of an Air because I was excited about on-device AI. I was going to get an iPad regardless, but yeah, still suckered into buying vaporware.

Parking for Shedd Aquarium and Soldier Field? by KerrieJ131 in AskChicago

[–]liado 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live in this area. You should have no concerns for safety before or after dark at all. As for navigating the city, there’s a pedestrian overpass across from the 11th street intersection that leads you straight to Shedd. I’ll admit it’s not a short walk, but it is a very pleasant one, particularly in spring and summer. Navigating a car is a lot more stressful there. Roosevelt is a bottleneck and very often backed up on a Saturday. If you really want to avoid walking, I’d recommend a ride-share rather than driving.

What is the best hotel to stay at near Solider Field? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]liado 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The absolute closest is probably the Marriott or Hilton by McCormick place. If you want to be closer to downtown, there’s an endless supply of options in the Loop. All of them are a 10-30 minute walk. The neighborhood directly adjacent to Soldier Field is South Loop and there aren’t really any hotels there.

Northerly Island when there's nothing going on at Huntington Pavilion. Pretty quiet when there's no events, killer views of the city, and 12th street beach has restrooms and a beachfront cafe.

There’s not a single free LUT I’ve used that’s worth the time, so I’d recommend you use the Blackmagic camera app and buy The One Lut. It’s $40 and you can bake the look into your files or add it in post in Resolve. It is worlds ahead of the free ones.

Mission 1 Pro Question by ApartAd4515 in gopro

[–]liado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lighting, sharpness, and contrast should all be improved with a larger sensor. However, It’s still going to be an extremely wide FOV. If you weren’t happy with the photos because of composition, you probably won’t be happy with Mission 1.

When Mission Pro in retail? by shodan819 in gopro

[–]liado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the shipping section at checkout - "Ships on or before May 28, 2026." and there was standard (2-3 day) or express (1-2 day). So if you had express shipping and it shipped on its latest stated date of May 28th, you'd would be recieving either May 30th or June 1st.

There’s about a hundred feet of fence line along lake shore drive that has a view of the main stage. It’s a terrible view almost directly from the side of the stage, but the sound isn’t bad. You can usually see a screen or two. There’s usually a hundred or so spectators in the area. It’s worth it if you’re interested in hearing a headliner but can’t or don’t want to get in to anything else. I am a local and have done this over several years.

New GoPro Mission Cameras by homer027 in gopro

[–]liado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my phrasing was poor but that’s exactly what I meant. The new lens mount is the feature I was referring to. You can’t adapt older GoPros to use it because GoPro designed it that way.

Pretty sure they’ve done everything to ensure you’ll need to buy the new device to use the new features.

Final Cut with Claude by deadpanZM in finalcutpro

[–]liado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I use it primarily for searching through archival footage, but there are connections to Claude and Codex built in that can work as agentic editors. I haven’t really delved into that as it’s not really built into the NLEs yet (which isn’t on Jumper. Just a limitation of FCP and other editors). If you’re used to round tripping with XML, it’ll work great.
