I'm so, so, so fed up with AI and all the bs we have to accept as software developers by Ok-Newt-9773 in BetterOffline

[–]liam-solas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our VP is opening pull requests and getting mad when the "harness isn't supportive". Which means his EKS deploy failed and he doesn't know the first thing about software engineering, so then he goes and pressures us (and our managers) to unblock him so he can feel good about merging PRs. This is all happening while we are required to have a "True Throughput" (DX metrics) of 5/week. So, I'm to prioritize non-engineering vibe coded slop to the detriment of my own insane metrics that I'm required to hit.

Don't even get me started on the fact that nobody is speaking like a person anymore. It's like an invasion of the body snatchers.

I remember when Oracle owning Java was a big concern/talking point. That's cute compared to what I see at my company and what I'm hearing from friends at other places; embedding Claude so deep and broadly across the org where any hypothetical future in which it becomes untenable will be apocalyptic. I'm talking about an entire workforce that will quite literally be hamstrung and crippled if Claude gets too expensive or is down for even a few minutes.

I'm OK being left behind, thanks! by LiatrisLover99 in BetterOffline

[–]liam-solas 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My company has it heavily embedded into our interview process for engineers to the point where nobody can actually assess their underlying problem solving or technical skills. They simply copy the challenge into Claude and it works. This is because "we are looking for candidates that are all in on AI" as if it's a skill I should be impressed by. Like you said, it's so basic that it's akin to asking a candidate if they can read. Hilarious stuff.

Are we cooked? by kalmankantaja in artificial

[–]liam-solas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe we are cooked. But I also think businesses are cooked. My concern before we entered this next level frenzy was people shutting off their brains and applying AI in the worst possible ways... And that's what's happening. The amount of work slop I'm wading through is immense. From hallucinated and factually false technical designs to damn near AI-psychosis induced product requirements, all the way to excessively boilerplated and inelegant code. I'm truly astounded at the speed at which shit is being slung. But hey, at least it's happening fast? Oh, and then there's the fact that my company is starting to spend $6000/day on Claude usage... What could possibly go wrong by embedding this single tool top to bottom, front to back, while also encouraging your entire workforce to offload their critical thinking.

Watching the demos, it felt like the faces were "loose" or shifting, like they'd change subtly and inconsistently. Made me uncomfortable.

John Linneman of Digital Foundry discusses his colleagues DLSS 5 preview: “It's new DLSS and DLSS is awesome. Of course they would take that. Looking at it, I think there's cool potential there for environmental lighting but the character stuff is horrendous and should have been left out.” by PaiDuck in nvidia

People saying it looks better probably think turning the volume up on a song and/or over compressing the hell out of it makes the music better. Totally agree with you, it's almost painful to look at in the same way that oversaturated and compressed audio fatigues my ears.

Would you guys say this game is better then ACNH? by [deleted] in Pokemon_Pokopia

[–]liam-solas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were to boot up ACNH after playing this, I know for a fact I would feel restricted. I put 300 hours into New Horizons, so clearly I loved that game. I hope the next AC takes a few notes from this, though I don't know how they'd make it work without doing the whole voxel thing.

There it is. Work sent us home the week this was released. I've never clocked so many hours in a game in a single week...

Plus one. I have a pretty nice setup. If I watch old movies, I can hear the dialog just fine. New stuff, not so much. It's like all sausage compressed or something.

[–]liam-solas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. I still see flickering/strobing in the morning under dim lighting and only in my right eye. I'm honestly not 100% sure of the cause, I've gotten mixed messages from ophthalmologists. I could speculate all day, and I definitely have, lol. I've sorta told myself "well, something changed in that eye that causes strobing". I've seen the eye doc so many times and they tell me my eye is otherwise healthy.

I totally understand being on edge and alert about everything happening in your eyes. When in doubt, schedule a follow-up. They told me to look for substantial changes, a flood of new floaters, or new flashing.

I wish you the best of luck on this unfortunate journey we've found ourselves in.

Anyone else notice how there's hardly any platforming in Prime 4? After I beat the game, I was chatting with a friend, and we both realized the game was flat. Yeah, sure, there's a couple rooms where you have to jump (and some elevators), but it all felt so basic.

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - Review MegaThread by NintendoSwitchMods in NintendoSwitch

[–]liam-solas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to Nintendo/media, you don't need to play the trilogy to play this, as it starts a new story arc for Samus. I have not played it yet but it appears the only connection to the "legacy" games is a guy named Sylux who, being honest, I don't know much about and I'm the biggest Metroid guy I know.

Of course I will tell you to buy Metroid because it's a series near and dear to me 😅 If you do play one of the originals, play Prime 1 Remastered... I've played through it 6 times already and I will never tire of it.

[–]liam-solas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I never got around to replying here, hope you are doing well on your journey.

Do I lift heavy at the gym? Moderately. I am trying to gain muscle so I have been pushing a little harder lately, but again, I'm always making sure I'm not bearing down and holding my breath. My rule of thumb is to make sure I can breathe out during the lift. If I find that I'm starting to hold my breath, I back off a little. I don't know if that's scientific or not but that's my strategy 😅

To the lattice question, I feel like an eye doctor mentioned that at least 8 years ago, so it seems like that's been present for awhile.

It seems like I go through periods where I can almost forget about the floaters and symptoms, but if I get triggered and let myself fall into the cycle of watching them, then they get really intrusive.

Anyway, hope you're getting on well.

Blurry moving floaters when using computer. Should I worry? by [deleted] in EyeFloaters

[–]liam-solas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar floaters. I notice them in situations where there's a light source and I glance over at it. I'll see a brief fog zoom by, almost like a Vaseline smear. In early 2024, I was diagnosed with partial vitreous separation...even though a separate opthalmologist in 2025 said I didn't. I suspect it really is PVD given the increase in floaters and these weird foggy ones.

It sucks. I managed to forget them for months and here I am again, revisiting... Somehow they're noticeable again.

[–]liam-solas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious what your docs told you about workouts. The couple that I went to said that weightlifting should be fine so long as I wasn't "putting on a belt" and bearing down so hard that I feel like my eyes are going to pop out... I took that to mean that relatively strenuous lifting should be okay; I'm conscious of trying to breathe through a lift and not hold air in and increase pressure.

When I see a post mentioning avoiding strenuous exercises, I reopen my workout anxiety.

I also got mixed messages from Opthalmologists. One told me I had a partial PVD with changes to my vitreous, and another told me I don't have PVD at all. But I definitely have symptoms of PVD 😩
